For those unaware, Bill was one of the most well-known names in the Memphis wrestling territory. He had won the Southern Heavyweight Championship belt several times. As per reports, Bill Dundee passed away at the age of 82.
The wrestling world has been left in a state of mourning after the news of Bill Dundee's death broke. The tragic news was first shared by Bill’s son, Jamie Dundee, who is also a wrestler. Taking to Facebook on September 6, 2026, Jamie revealed that his father passed away at approximately 3:30 a.m. In the note, he claimed that it hurt him to share this news. Calling Bill, a superstar, Jamie promised to catch him on the other side. He wrote:
“With a heavy heart, it hurts me to have to say this...At 3:30 this morning, the SUPERSTAR BILL DUNDEE has passed away...I love you, Dad. Will catch you on the OTHERSIDE...REST IN PEACE, SUPERSTAR...Love, Bill's Boy.”
For those wondering about Bill Dundee's cause of death, it has not been made public yet. However, it is worth mentioning that Jamie had previously mentioned that his father was living with late-stage dementia. Three years before Bill’s death, Jamie appeared as a guest on Story Time with Dutch Mantell in 2023. He shared:
“[Bill] don’t know it, but he’s alright. I mean, he’s got that dementia…he just smiles all the time like that.”
Jamie added that when a person’s dementia reaches stage 3, they usually spend their time crying or smiling. He stated that he was glad when it came to his father; Bill would not cry all the time. In his words:
“With stage 3, they say once you get there you either cry all the time, or you smile all the time, and that’s what he does, so I’m glad he don’t just sit around crying all the time.”
Tributes have already begun pouring in for Bill Dundee from both his fans as well as wrestling colleagues. BookProWrestlers agent Steve Stasiak remembered Bill and wrote about how he would carry himself like the biggest man in any building. He claimed that Bill Dundee's nickname “Superstar” was way more than that for his numerous fans. He added that Bill has earned it.
Another fan of the late wrestler wrote on social media, “We lost another hero from our childhood. RIP Superstar. Prayers for all of his family and friends.” A fan who recently met Bill commented, “So glad I had a chance to chat with a Memphis Legend just a couple of weeks ago. Love and prayers for his family.” A third comment read, “Rest in Glory, Bill, I pray for Jamie and his family to pull through this pain.”
Bill Dundee was born as William Cruickshanks on October 24, 1943, in Scotland and raised in Australia. He began wrestling in the 1960s before he relocated to the United States in the mid-1970s. Soon enough, Bill Dundee rose as a central figure in the Memphis wrestling scene. Bill became known for his association with Jerry Lawler, alternating between partner and rival.
Beyond the ring, Bill had also worked as a booker in Memphis. In the ‘80s, he worked for Bill Watts’ Mid-South Wrestling. For the majority of his life, Bill remained closely associated with Memphis. He was even inducted into the Memphis Hall of Fame in 2017.
