The 911 dialler reported seeing a woman dressed in all black hanging out of the window of a car and screaming, most likely for help. The call dispatcher described the vehicle as a dark grey or blue Chevrolet Malibu. According to the unidentified woman, the car lacked a number plate, raising suspicion about the occupants' intentions. Was the 911 call linked to Nancy Guthrie's case?

Recently, Nancy Grace, the former prosecutor turned television journalist, weighed in on the dispatch audio's connection with Nancy Guthrie's case. The 911 caller revealed that the scream came from about three miles from Nancy's Tucson home, and the timing of the incident almost coincided with Nancy's disappearance. Keeping these factors in mind, Nancy Grace said that even though there was no clear evidence of a connection between Savannah's mom's abduction and the 911 call, the possibility of the same cannot be ruled out. Her exact words were:

"We don't know [if the two incidents are connected]. But it's close to her home around the time she was taken. We can't really discount anything."

However, recently, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, confirmed that the incident was investigated and found to be unrelated to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, as reported by KVOA. Hence, as of February 26, 2026 (ET), there isn't any publicly known witness to Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping.

Did the investigation of Nancy Guthrie's case reach a dead end?

While official statements from the Pima County Sheriff's Department maintain that the investigation remains active with hundreds of personnel assigned, several reports indicate the case might have reached a dead end. There is a list of setbacks in the investigation that might have led to the possibility. DNA found on a black glove recovered two miles from Nancy's home did not return a match in the FBI's CODIS database. For the unversed, the data included the DNA samples of persons of interest in the abduction case.

Besides gloves, a backpack was discovered by volunteers, but it did not match the brand of the bag the masked intruder of Nancy's home was seen carrying in her doorcam footage. On February 25, 2026, the FBI conducted what sources described as a "final sweep" of Nancy Guthrie's Tucson home. It often signals the end of active on-site evidence collection. Additionally, sources informed ABC News that the case is transitioning to a smaller, long-term task force approach after primary leads failed to produce an arrest or location.
