Savannah Guthrie's highly-awaited return, her former 'Today' co-host, Hoda Kotb, is set to return to the show.
Today show's next week is set to be different. The change won't be limited to viewers; it would affect Savannah Guthrie herself. After a long-awaited return owing to her mother's disappearance, Savannah returned to work a few days ago. However, her brief tease when she said, "There's going to be a new host" left everyone thinking. Now, we finally have all the details about the change.
According to reports, Savannah Guthrie's former Today co-host, Hoda Kotb, who temporarily replaced her, is set to return on the show. She had taken Savannah's place when the latter had to immediately go to Arizona following her mother's disappearance. But this time, the return would not be to replace Savannah. Instead, she is returning to replace co-anchor, Craig Melvin. He will take a temporary break from April 13, 2026, after working continuously in Savannah's absence.
Although the change is temporary, it would be a major change for Savannah, who co-hosted the show with Hoda for multiple years. For those unaware, Savannah and Hoda's bond developed over multiple years. Apart from their professional collaboration, they also share a good bond in real life. When Hoda first joined Today in 2017, they made history as the first all-female anchor team on the show. Gradually, breaking major news together and sharing fun moments on the show deepened their friendship. So, the chance for Savannah to work with Hoda at an emotional time when her mother is still missing would be a great support.
In fact, Hoda was the first person to interview Savannah for NBC when she returned following her mother, Nancy's, disappearance. When Savannah shared the show table with Craig on-air, she jokingly introduced Hoda as a "new host". But now it is clear that it was not just a light tease. Instead, next week would feel different depending on her co-host. Introducing Hoda again, Savannah said:
"Craig, you are heading off on a very well-deserved vacation. You've been holding it down here for a long time. And Monday, we're going to try a new host here. Her name is Hoda."
While Savannah Guthrie has returned to the Today show, her mother, Nancy, continues to remain unsolved. The local authorities and the FBI are still investigating the case, but they have received no breakthrough. The 84-year-old was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, 2026. Meanwhile, authorities believe that she may have been abducted from her home at midnight.
Their doubts were fueled when the investigators saw the footage of a masked man seen near Nancy's home before she went missing. Although the authorities received thousands of tips following their announcement of reward leads, none of those has led to any suspects. Moreover, the DNA samples found at her home have not matched with any records. Meanwhile, a note asked for cryptocurrency in exchange for information, but authorities believe it is a scam.
Craig Melvin is a prominent journalist and a key face on Today. He is an Emmy-winning broadcaster who joined the show in 2025 and continues to work on it. Apart from TV, he hosts programs such as Dateline. Craig is also a strong advocate for raising awareness about colorectal cancer. In his personal life, he is married to sports broadcaster, Lindsay Czarniak, with whom he shares two children.
