The second half of Young Sherlock slowly started revealing a lot of hidden secrets. This started with 'Sherlock' discovering the fact that the death of his sister, 'Beatrice,' was fake, and she was alive. However, it was later revealed that 'Sherlock’s' father, 'Silas,' was involved in everything, and he was also creating a weapon in the form of a nerve agent, which could easily destroy neighborhoods.

'Sherlock' and 'James' then joined each other to find the other half of the equation after obtaining the initial half from a room. The intention of 'James' appeared to be something else when he took the incomplete formula inside the factory of 'Silas' in Afshin. After all the chaos was over, 'James' wanted to tell 'Beatrice' that he had the formula with him. But he told 'Beatrice' to leave after he witnessed 'Sherlock' approaching him inside a café.

While they were having a conversation, 'Sherlock' told 'James' that he was well aware of the fact that 'Moriarty' had the equation with him. 'James' admitted that it was true, revealing that it was for them and that it would help them to stop the weapons created through the same process. 'Sherlock' was spotted showing a key, and 'James' was giving a different expression this time, hinting that he might be curious to know what the key opens and the powers that are linked to the same.

The behaviour of 'James Moriarty' towards the latter half of Young Sherlock hinted at a lot of things. In one of the sequences, he was not reacting to the death of a soldier. The character was seemingly displayed as someone who would do anything to achieve his goal. The ending of the first season has hinted at a clash between 'Sherlock' and 'James,' which is also going to impact their close friendship.

Young Sherlock has been recently renewed, and a potential release date remains unknown. While nothing can be predicted for now, executive producer, Simon Maxwell, said in an interview in March 2026 that although the 'James' and 'Sherlock' became friends at a young age, the competition between them still exists, along with the things that can turn them into enemies. In the press release from Amazon MGM Studios on April 14, 2026, Head of Global Television, Peter Friedlander, addressed the possibilities of 'James Moriarty' being the main focus of Season 2 and said:

“Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season Two.”
