Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen passed away at the age of 38. Amid her untimely death, her husband, Stephen Bowen is taken into custody.
In a tragic moment, the vice mayor of a Florida city was found dead in her home April 1, 2026. Nancy’s body was discovered in her Coral Springs home about 10 a.m. As per the initial findings, Nancy’s untimely death was stated to be a case of ‘domestic violence’. Amid the tragic news, Nancy’s husband, Stephen Bowen is in focus for being a suspect in her murder.
After police officers found Nancy’s dead body, the officials revealed that she was killed in an ‘apparent domestic violence incident’. Her husband, Stephen Bowen became the prime suspect and was taken into custody. As per the initial investigation, Nancy was reportedly killed after being shot and her husband, Stephen, fled town to Plantation, Fla., where he was taken into police custody at an apartment complex.
He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Broward County Jail. Nancy’s death comes after three months of her brother, Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer’s death. Donovan was a survivor of the deadly school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018 and died by suicide in December 2025.
As per multiple reports available online, Nancy Bowen’s husband, Stephen Bown is a certified technologist. The 40-year-old is a former nonprofit executive and was listed as the Chief Operating Officer of Men of St. Luke Inc. Apart from this, Stephen Bowen also holds an active license as a certified radiologic technologist.
Nancy Metayer Bowen was the first Black and Haitian-American woman to serve on the Coral Springs City Commission. A Florida A&M University graduate, Nancy was first elected in 2020 and re-elected in 2024. She was an environmental scientist and former member of the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District.
In the year 2025-2026, Nancy was appointed to the Florida League of Cities’ Federal Action Strike Team. An environmental scientist, Nancy was appointed to serve a second one-year term as Vice Mayor. She has previously served on the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District.
According to Police Chief Brad Mock, officers arrived at Nancy Bown’s residence in the 800 block of Northwest 127th Avenue for a wellness check after a concerned friend could not reach her. Upon arrival, officials found Nancy’s body inside her house and found the vice mayor deceased.
Officials have not released her cause of death but confirmed the case is being treated as domestic violence. Nancy’s family confirmed her death and released a statement on social media stating:
“Throughout her years in public office, she led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose. She believed in bringing people together, listening to those she served, and working tirelessly to create positive change in her community. To us, she was a source of strength, wisdom, and love — someone who always put others before herself. While many knew her as a leader and advocate, we knew her as a sister, a daughter, and a friend whose warmth and laughter filled every room. Her legacy will live on not only in the policies she helped shape, but in the countless lives she touched."
