Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleAfter more than a decade of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's conflict, their youngest daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, has taken a significant step to legally remove her father's surname. She recently fulfilled a key request for California's legal name-changing process. Now, it has brought her closer to becoming Vivienne Jolie. In fact, her decision is similar to that of many of her siblings.
According to newly filed legal documents, Vivienne has met the requirement to issue a public notice of her name change in California. It was published every week for four consecutive weeks in the Los Angeles Daily Journal to inform the public of her request. California law gives anyone with objections time to respond before a final court hearing.
Brad Pitt's youngest daughter wants to remove the "Pitt" surname to become Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. Meanwhile, her next step will be a court hearing that is scheduled for November 2026. Under the regular legal process, a judge can approve the request at the hearing if no one files a formal objection.
Notably, the legal paperwork reportedly lists that Vivienne has a personal reason to change the name. But the decision has once again brought the spotlight to the ongoing family drama between Brad Pitt and his children. In fact, Vivienne is not the first of the former Hollywood power couple's children to separate themselves from the "Pitt" surname. Previously, many of her siblings have completed or filed for the same.
Initially, Shiloh legally removed "Pitt" from her name after she turned 18. She was followed by Zahara, who publicly introduced herself using only the Jolie surname. The latest reports have suggested that Maddox has done the same. Meanwhile, Vivienne's other siblings have stopped using the "Pitt" surname in informal settings.
Brad Pitt has had a strained relationship with his children, a fact widely covered by the media since he filed for divorce from Angelina Jolie in 2016. During these years, some reports have reportedly mentioned that there is limited contact between the actor and his kids. However, it is important to know that neither Vivienne nor her siblings have publicly shared the reasons behind their individual decisions. Still, many reports link it to the family's strained dynamics.
For those unaware, Vivienne has mostly stayed out of the spotlight compared to some of her siblings. So, the legal filing shows one of her clear public statements about her identity. The teenager has mostly focused on creative projects rather than pursuing acting. She has also worked behind the scenes on Broadway productions with her mother.
The Pitt-Jolie family's tension reportedly began in September 2016, when an incident took place on a private flight. Shortly after the flight, Angelina filed for divorce. She cited concerns about her family's well-being as the reason for her decision. Later, some court filings alleged that they had a heated confrontation during the journey.
Brad Pitt had denied the allegations of physical abuse. At the same time, the authorities' investigation did not find any conclusive evidence to file criminal charges against him. However, it was a turning point for their family. After that incident, they spent a decade full of conflict over custody and other issues.
Meanwhile, Brad openly discussed his struggles with alcohol during that period. He also described how he tried to achieve sobriety after the split. But despite some occasional progress in this regard, there has been lingering tension, lengthy court battles, and disagreements over children.
