Although the investigators have asked internet users to refrain from spreading unconfirmed rumours, new questions about the duo have resurfaced as their car remains under investigation.

Why is Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni's car under investigation?

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Catalina, Arizona, home on February 1, 2026. Since then, the case has risen to national headlines, sparking intense scrutiny. Some media reports and internet discussions initially highlighted Tommaso because he was the last known person to see Nancy alive. He and Annie had dinner with her on January 31, 2026, and subsequently, he reportedly dropped her home around 9:48 p.m. A few hours later, she disappeared. Recently, CBS 5 Crime Journalist, Briana Whitney reported that the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed that Annie and Tommaso's vehicle remains under review. Sharing the update, an official told her:

"All we can say at this time, the vehicle is still part of the investigation."

Additionally, the authorities have stated there is no wrongdoing in the case. Instead, law enforcement sources explained that it was a routine evidentiary step and not any indication of any suspicion. Similarly, in other missing-person cases, vehicles linked to the last known contact are processed or examined under regular investigative procedures. The confirmation comes amid the ongoing investigation by the FBI and local authorities.

Earlier this week, the FBI sent a DNA sample taken from a glove near Nancy's home for advanced genetic genealogy testing after it did not match anyone in national criminal databases. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said such results could take "months, even years" to yield actionable leads. Meanwhile, the law enforcement officials have been present around Nancy Guthrie's home.

Additionally, Chris emphasized that all the family members have nothing to do with Nancy's alleged abduction and called out misleading reports claiming Tommaso Cioni as the prime suspect in the case.
