Although the sudden separation came as a shock to fans, both Cory and Taylor confirmed that they made the decision due to the ongoing issues between them.
Cory Wharton has announced her breakup through a heartfelt Instagram post. He described the separation as the beginning of a "new chapter" in her life. The reality star admitted that it was not easy to end a 9-year-long relationship. But he wants to be honest about his current relationship status. Cory reflected on the years he spent with Taylor and expressed his gratitude for the memories they made as a family. In his words:
"Taylor and I have decided to go our separate ways, as hard as that is to say publicly, I think it's important to be honest about where my life is at this moment. We shared a lot of years, memories, love, and most importantly, we have two beautiful daughters. I'm sorry, Taylor, that things didn't work out the way we both hoped they would."
At the same time, Cory publicly apologized to his former partner. He mentioned that there were moments when he could have been a better partner. Still, he had let her down. The Challenge star also revealed that he is now focusing on being a better version of himself. As per Cory, he has vowed to learn from his mistakes while he continues to grow as a person. In fact, he is also focusing on being the best father possible for his daughters.
Shortly after Cory's post, Taylor Selfridge shared her separate statement and revealed her side of the story on the breakup. She mentioned that she was the one who decided to leave the relationship. Despite spending nine years with Cory, the reality TV star admitted that she left due to a lack of basic respect from both her partner and the father of her children.
She also stated that there were challenges in their relationship, making her feel that she deserved more. Although Taylor did not go into the details, her statement pointed towards some unresolved issues between the former couple. Needless to say, her statement immediately got reactions from fans, many of whom had seen the couple deal with difficult phases in life on their reality TV show.
For those who don't know, trust has been one of the biggest challenges in Cory and Taylor's relationship. During one of his previous appearances on Teen Mom: Family Reunion, Cory accepted that he was unfaithful during the initial phase of their relationship. Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge's love story started in 2017 when they met while shooting MTV's Ex on the Beach. They quickly developed a connection. Despite facing multiple ups and downs, they stayed together for years. Later, they welcomed their first daughter, Mila, in 2020. Eventually, the duo expanded their family with the birth of their second daughter, Maya, in 2022. Cory also has a daughter, Ryder, with his ex-girlfriend, Cheyenne Floyd.
One of the most difficult moments in their relationship came when their youngest daughter, Maya, faced several serious health issues. In turn, she underwent an open-heart surgery. Cory and Taylor had admitted that the experience brought them closer and strengthened their bond as parents.
