The news was confirmed by his family, who were told by the U.S .State Department that Reggie had died in Tanzania. In fact, he has been living in the African nation for more than 20 years now.
Reggie McFadden was born in Brooklyn, New York. Since he grew up in public housing projects, he often used humor to deal with life's challenges. The actor's natural ability to make people laugh eventually turned him towards comedy. In turn, he quickly started to build a name for himself in comedic roles. In fact, Reggie McFadden rose to fame in 1991 when he was seen on HBO's hit comedy series Def Comedy Jam.
The show became a starting platform for many Black comedians during the 1990s. Meanwhile, the comic actor's stellar performances enabled him to gain national attention. At the same time, Reggie's sharp observation and energetic stage presence made him famous among audiences. After his success in stand-up comedy, Reggie moved to Los Angeles to expand his acting career.
Eventually, he got key roles in many popular TV shows of the era, including Martin, Moesha, Coach, and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. Reggie's appearances on different sitcoms also helped him to become a familiar face on television. One of the biggest milestones in Reggie's career came in 1993 when he joined the fifth and final season of In Living Color. He also appeared in different comedy sketches in the series and also contributed as a writer on the show. Moreover, his work showcased his flexibility to mold himself in different creative scenes.
Reggie continued to work in television and films throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was also seen in Fox's sitcom Getting Personal. Later, he shared the screen with Larry David in HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm. Likewise, the actor took small roles in notable projects such as Jacob's Ladder and Adam Sandler's comedy Little Nicky.
Apart from acting, Reggie has remained active in stand-up comedy. He has been a familiar face on popular late-night shows. Some of them were The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Overall, he performed in TV shows, film, writing, and live comedy.
After several years, Reggie stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight and moved to Tanzania. He reportedly worked on entrepreneurial ventures in the African nation, including music production and business projects. Although the actor stayed away from showbiz, he continued to pursue creative interests to build a life away from the entertainment world.
Reggie McFadden's death was confirmed by his sister, acclaimed author Bernice McFadden. As per reports, the U.S. State Department shared the news of his death with his family. However, they have not shared any details about the exact date or cause of his death.
She also revealed that her brother has been staying in Tanzania for nearly 18 years. Simultaneously, he was somewhat estranged from parts of his family in the final years before his death. Despite the distance, Reggie's family has been mourning his loss.
