If reports are believed to be true, then Lil Jon was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to a middle-class family and raised in Southwest Atlanta. His father worked as an aerospace engineer. Growing up, he was a pretty independent kid who had a knack for reading. At one point, his mother even tagged him as a high achiever.

Coming to his education, Lil Jon attended the Beecher Hills Elementary School, followed by the Southwest Middle School. Both of these schools were located within the Atlanta Public Schools district. For his high school, Lil Jon enrolled in the Frederick Douglass High School, where he was reportedly part of the magnet program. Several reports suggest that during his teen years, Lil Jon developed a keen interest in music and joined his high school's marching band. By age 15, he had taught himself to DJ, and with his parents' permission, he often hosted house parties in the basement of his family home. The reason why Lil Jon's parents, despite being strict, allowed him to conduct the parties in their house and work on his DJing skills was because they feared that he would “be in the street somewhere wilding out.”
