Meet Kumar Mangalam Birla's wife, Neerja Birla. Here's what you need to know about her.
Indian billionaire, Kumar Mangalam Birla, is currently hogging the limelight after he featured on Amitabh Bachchan’s show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. He is a businessman and Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group. Often, he and his family garnered a lot of attention for different reasons. Kumar has three daughters, and among them, Ananya Birla has established her foothold in the music industry.
However, while Kumar and his eldest daughter, Ananya Birla stays in the spotlight, little do people know about the billionaire’s beloved wife, Neerja Birla. The couple has been happily married for more than three decades. Now that Kumar is making headlines for appearing on the show, KBC 17, let us introduce you to his ladylove, Neerja Birla.
Neerja Birla was born in 1971 and belongs to a renowned business family. Her dad, Shambhu Kumar Kasliwal, was the founder of Indore’s S. Kumar Group. She founded the Aditya Birla Education Trust and currently serves as the Chairperson of the organisation. She is widely known for her philanthropic work. Besides being a businesswoman and philanthropist, Neerja plays a significant role in mental health awareness programs. She is also part of the G100 Global Chair for Mental Health, a group led by influential women who are working together to bring a change to society.
Neerja tied the knot with Kumar in 1989. The businesswoman was just 18 when she got married to the 22-year-old Indian billionaire businessman. The couple is now proud parents to three children, two daughters, Ananya Birla and Advaitesha Birla and a son named Aryaman.
According to a 2012 report published on the official site of Aditya Birla, Kumar shared that as he and Neerja got engaged and married very young, they have a very close understanding. He called Neerja his 'best friend'. He was quoted as saying:
"We got engaged and married very young and so we have a very close understanding of each other. We are also best friends besides being a couple."
In the same report, Kumar opened up about their common sense of values. He called his beloved wife 'the force' behind him. Neerja shared that there are some differences as well. She highlighted that although sometimes they are not on the same boat, they don’t force each other to change. She was quoted as saying:
"When on a holiday, I am very hyper, I like to start my day early, go and see the sunrise, etc. I don't like to waste any time on my holidays. He (Kumar Mangalam) is not like that at all. He likes to take it easy, start the day late. We both know that is something about each other that we cannot change. I don't even believe in changing the other person. Why would you want to change something, because at the end of the day, a person is whole because of everything that is there in him."
Neerja resides in a sea-facing lavish mansion in Mumbai along with her husband, Kumar and their three kids. The luxurious property named Jatia spanned an area of 30,000 square feet and was purchased in 2015 through an auction. Ajay Piramal was also on the verge of buying the property, but it was Kumar Mangalam Birla who bought it by paying a whopping amount of Rs. 425 crore.
