Who Is American Idol Season 24's Brooks Rosser? Had Back Injury, Wanted To Be A Soccer Player

Brooks Rosser is a rising star from Bel Air, Maryland and is merely 22 years of age. He had a back injury due to which he could not become a soccer player.

Brooks Rosser is one of the top 20 contestants on the sets of American Idol Season 24. Brooks does not have a lot of performance experience, but he impressed judges-  Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan with his unique voice that no one had ever heard of. Brooks Rosser went through three rounds of competition, reportedly, and shared his story with all the American Idol fans.

Brooks Rosser is a rising star from Bel Air, Maryland and is merely 22 years of age when he had given the American Idol audition in 2025. Before his performance on American Idol, Brooks had never crooned in public before. In an interview with TV Insider.com, Brooks revealed that he had done a couple of gigs, but once had played just the guitar. Well, for a living, Brooks is pursuing his music career, but singing was not the career he was initially looking towards.

When Brooks Rosser was a freshman in high school, he had broken his back while playing soccer. At 6, Brooks started playing the game and thought of going pro, but a back injury shattered his dreams. Brooks had not thought of playing music until recently. In an interview with the publication, he had shared:

"I was an athlete, playing soccer my whole life, until I had an injury, I ripped my back in half and then COVID hit. Then I started playing guitar and singing at the same time.”

Brooks further explained that when he was growing up, he was very shy to perform. He used to watch it from behind the scenes when his sister performed and saw how she could walk on stage, be herself, and walk off, and it was a job to her. He had found inspiration in his sister. It was during the pandemic that he started learning to sing, practising, and then realised he actually wanted to do the same. Brooks Rosser's first choice in his career was never to be a musician. He had gone to the Community College of Baltimore County, where he had studied audio technology. He was going to be behind the scenes, mixing and doing recording and he realised that halfway though he was hiding, he wanted to  be the one being recorded. Brooks Rosser had learned a lot from behind the scenes.

Brooks Rosser believes that self confidence is very important

Since then, Brooks Rosser has been on American Idol Season 24, and in an interview with Billboard, he revealed that self-worth and self-confidence are very important. He shared that believing in oneself is very important, just as it is for all the contestants and their families on the sets of American Idol Season 24. He revealed that they are all family to him, who have been extremely supportive. The biggest thing that Brooks learned was to just be you.

Brooks Rosser works in a dementia care facility

According to social media reports, Brooks Rosser is fully pursuing his music career. However, he is also working in a dementia care facility, which he called 'extremely fulfilling'. Well, Brooks had got in this field after he saw his grandmother struggle with the disease. After he took care of his grandmother, he realised that this was his passion, to be there for people even if they don’t remember him.

Brooks Rosser's grandma's health was steadily declining, but his love for music, on the other hand, was growing. During his American Idol audition, Brooks shared that he was extremely close to his grandmother and used to play the guitar and sing when she was sick. Music would help her learn her words back and help him, too. Explaining how he had ripped his back apart, during his audition journey Brooks explained on the sets of American Idol:

“I went for a free kick and I planted my left foot to kick it and I felt a gear switch in my lower left back, couldn’t feel my legs. I snapped my back in half, and that changed everything.”

Brooks Rosser shared that music helped him cope with the loss of his dreams of being a soccer player

Brooks Rosser, in an interview with Billiboard revealed that he had no confidence of being a part of American Idol Season 24. It was music that helped him cope with the new reality that he could no longer play the game. However, Brooks remembered judge, Luke Bryan told him he wanted to hear his music as it was amazing. The singer was anxious during his performance.
