Paradise is back with Season 2, and fans cannot get enough of the splendid series. The series, which first made headlines with its 2025 premiere, will follow another twisted saga. However, one person has gained attention. Yes! We are talking about 'Alex', a mystery that has had the viewers on the edge of their seats since the beginning of the show. Viewers who have watched the final moments of Paradise Season 2 Episode 7 are already familiar with the jaw-dropping and brain-spinning moments of the episode.

The final minutes showed 'Sinatra' slipping on her lab coat and glancing upward as her face was illuminated in a warm, amber-orange glow. Then, quietly, she says the two words that the audience has been waiting to unravel, "Hi, Alex," and the screen cuts to black. However, now fans are done waiting, so without any further delay, let's take a look at who or what 'Alex' is.

Who or what is 'Alex'?

For those new to the Hulu drama, Paradise centres on survivors of nuclear fallout. The show explores the aftermath of how some of them live luxurious lives inside a survival city bunker (which is part of Season 1's game-changing twist). However, Season 2 takes on a different perspective. As the contrasting lives are further explored in Season 2, we are met with even more questions. However, amid that, fans are wondering who or what 'Alex' is.

However, why is 'Alex' so important to Paradise Season 2? Well, the first mention of the person or project came in Season 2, Episode 1, when 'Link' and his group of survivors' ultimate goal is revealed: to find the underground bunker, infiltrate it, and kill "Alex." The mention of this mysterious person, 'Alex', is never explored any further, but Episode 3 gives us a hint that, in the past, there was a person named 'Alex'. It is further revealed that 'Alex' was a she and was 'Henry Miller's' dying wife, who was suffering from Huntington's disease. So, she couldn't have been the 'Alex' mentioned in the episode for obvious reasons.

Nonetheless, the audience's intrigue does not falter as they continue to question the identity of 'Alex' and its relevance. And after a seven-episode-long wait, writers finally give us an idea of what 'Alex' is. In Episode 7, 'Sinatra' isn't looking across a room at someone, but she is looking up. It was at that moment that a light washed over her face. However, it wasn't the warm, natural glow of a lamp or a window. It's that specific, unmistakable amber tone of a screen in a dark room, which further clarifies that 'Sintara' is not greeting a person but rather addressing a machine. The conclusion, at least from this scene, is that 'Alex' is a computer program. Some form of artificial intelligence, or at the very least, a highly sophisticated piece of technology.

Previous fan theories about the identity of 'Alex'

Earlier in the season, fans came up with several theories guessing what or who 'Alex' was. While none of them hit the mark, they came extremely close to guessing the same. One of the most compelling theories, even today, remains that 'Alex' was a project named in honour of 'Henry Miller's' late wife. While it would be a classic science-fiction move for this cold, powerful machine to have an achingly human name, it is not the only possibility we have.

There are several other possibilities that point to the identity of the mysterious 'Alex'. The first is time travel, a concept the show has been flirting with in its narrative architecture all season. The second is parallel universes, which would reframe nearly everything we've watched. However, that is not all; the latter would also unfold and explain some of the more disorienting choices the writers have made with continuity and character.

Are the nosebleeds connected to 'Alex'?

Fans have also pointed out that there have been enough nosebleeds in the season to not mean anything. They have happened enough times and have often pointed to radiation as the cause, the kind of side effect you'd expect from prolonged exposure to a powerful, experimental piece of technology. Which means if 'Alex' is a machine capable of bending time or crossing dimensional lines, the human body paying a physical price for proximity to it makes a great deal of narrative sense.

Episode 7 has also pulled 'Link' and 'Sinatra' into the 'Alex' orbit in ways that suggest a much larger reveal is coming. There are threads connecting them. However, one thing is for sure, whatever 'Alex' is, it is much larger than what we had imagined. Nonetheless, if the path is to be estimated, viewers can expect clearer answers in Paradise Season 2 Episode 8, which will further clarify whether 'Alex' is an AI, a time machine, a portal to somewhere else entirely, or some hybrid of all three.
