While the reasons behind Mica Miller’s death remain a mystery until today, her personal life also became a topic of discussion at the same time. She was married to John-Paul Miller from 2018 to 2023. As the case comes into the spotlight after the premiere of the Netflix docuseries, netizens are eager to know John’s whereabouts after Mica’s death.

John-Paul Miller tied the knot with someone else after Mica Miller’s death

At one point, around 700 people used to attend Solid Rock Church in South Carolina, where Pastor John-Paul Miller was known for his charismatic way of speaking. That changed after his wife Mica Miller died in a North Carolina state park. When claims of abuse in their relationship started to surface, a large number of members left the church.

The Sun News reports that the church finally shut down in 2024, and a year later its parent organization sold the Myrtle Beach property, which was about 2.3 acres, for USD 2.1 million to a developer. According to John, it was the public criticism over Mica's death that led to the closing of the church.

John also blamed the city of Myrtle Beach for not stepping in. He claimed the city failed to protect the church from constant protests. He further stated that the chapel had stood strong for seven decades through major hurricanes, wars, and attempts at redevelopment, and it would be demolished to make way for condos.

With Solid Rock gone, John-Paul Miller launched another congregation named Mercy Church. It does not have a fixed location and gathers wherever space is available. John explained his choice for the church’s name by saying that 2024 was a year when he tried to show mercy to those who attacked his reputation and privacy. But for 2025, he said God had given him a different message, which was to go after justice, since that is what the crowd was asking for.

On the personal front, he tied the knot once again. He has been married to his girlfriend, Suzie Skinner, since June 2025.

Multiple allegations were made against John-Paul Miller over the years

John-Paul Miller’s first marriage was to Alison Williams. Mica Miller’s sister-in-law, Victoria Francis, said in the new Netflix docuseries that he had a lot of charisma and that it was something people really connected with. But his first marriage broke down after Alison found out he was having an affair with Mica, who was working as their family babysitter and his assistant. Both John and Mica publicly apologized to the church and later got married.

Mica's family and friends alleged in the Netflix docuseries that John Paul was controlling and abusive during the marriage. John dismissed those claims and said that his wife battled with mental health issues, including bipolar disorder. Speaking to ABC 11, he said there was never any form of abuse and that he took care of her in every way possible, saying she never had to cook, clean, or work, and just needed to take her medicine and live her life. While investigators never considered him a suspect in his wife's death, they did accuse him of sending harassing and unwanted messages for over a year before she died.

According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in South Carolina, John-Paul Miller was charged in federal court in December 2025 with cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators. Prosecutors alleged that his harassment included posting an inappropriate photo of the victim online without her consent, putting tracking devices on her car, and once contacting her more than 50 times in a single day. The indictment also claimed he interfered with her money matters and daily life and, at one point, damaged her car tires. John Paul has pleaded not guilty.

His legal problems continued after Mica's death. Alison filed for emergency sole custody of their children. In an affidavit, she said he had been showing increasingly unstable behavior and was not providing a safe and stable environment for the kids during visitation. Alison even alleged that John had exposed them to domestic conflicts that were traumatic for them. She also claimed that during their marriage, he had been sexually inappropriate with young people in the church.

In her affidavit, she wrote that John-Paul Miller told her that apart from his affair with Mica, he had paid prostitutes and had been sexually inappropriate with several underage female members of the church. She said the church had asked John to join a sexual addiction program, which he never did. A spokesperson from the Horry County family services division later said that the custody case was sealed by the court.

In 2025, an anonymous woman also filed a lawsuit against John, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. However, John dismissed the allegations by saying that he had been sexually inappropriate, adding that the claims were grossly negligent and unsubstantiated.
