The original cast of Descendants recently honoured Cameron Boyce on the late actor’s birthday. Cameron, who would have turned 27 on May 28, 2026, passed away suddenly in 2019 at the age of 20. On social media, Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, and Booboo Stewart paid their respects to Boyce. While the actor’s sudden death in 2019 came as a shock to his friends, fans and family, let us read to know what led to his untimely death.
The Disney Channel star and actor, Cameron Boyce, passed away suddenly on July 6, 2019, in his sleep at his North Hollywood home. In the early afternoon of July 6, 2019, Boyce was found unresponsive in his home, and authorities pronounced him dead at 2:35 p.m. On July 8, 2019, an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of his untimely death, and it was determined that the actor had passed away due to epilepsy.
When Cameron Boyce was 16, he had a seizure for the first time. He had an MRI at that time, and everything came out normal. He had another seizure after nine months, and his parents took him to a neurologist, who told them that he had epilepsy and he was put on medicines. After some time, he had his third and fourth seizures, and he revealed that since he had not been taking his medication, the fourth seizure was unbearable for him.
After his fourth seizure, Boyce has never missed his medicines since his final seizure. He passed away in his sleep due to sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), a complication of the ongoing epilepsy condition for which he was being treated. His family had no idea about SUDEP and were not aware of the condition. After his death, his family posted a heart-wrenching note and wrote:
“Cameron’s tragic passing was due to a seizure as a result of an ongoing medical condition, and that condition was Epilepsy. We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family, and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral--which in and of itself, is agonizing."
Boyce was known for his roles in the Disney Channel franchise, Descendants and the TV show, Jessie. Boyce made his acting debut in the horror film Mirrors at just 9 years old. Two years later, he appeared in the blockbuster Adam Sandler flick, Grown Ups, as one of Sandler's children. He was set to appear as a series regular in HBO's show, Mrs. Fletcher, starring Kathryn Hahn, and the TV spinoff of the film, American Satan, called Paradise City.
Apart from being a TV star, Boyce was involved in numerous charities. He was responsible for bringing clean water to the less fortunate around the globe and helping the homeless here in the United States. A Disney Channel spokesperson talked about Boyce and revealed:
“From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples' lives through his humanitarian work.”
Cameron Boyce was surely a great soul, and despite his death, his memories are still etched in people’s minds.
