Kate Gosselin and her son, Collin Gosselin have a long history of estrangement. Recently, the family feud drama came under the spotlight once again, as Collin took a pointed jab at his mother. In June 2026, he shared an explosive Instagram post targeting Kate Gosselin after reports surfaced that she was spiralling over his upcoming tell-all memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.

Collin took to his Instagram Stories to reshare the headline of an article that read, "Kate Gosselin 'spiraling' ahead of estranged son Collin's bombshell memoir: 'She knows it's about to hit the fan.'" While sharing it, the 22-year-old used a filter to completely blur out his mother's face in the article's image and superimposed a quote from a fan that read, "What's done in darkness will always come to light." What caused Collin Gosselin's estrangement from his mother, Kate Gosselin?

Collin Gosselin's estrangement from his mother, Kate Gosselin, began years after her 2009 divorce from Jon Gosselin. For the unversed, the pair is parents to twins, Mady and Cara, whom they welcomed in October 2000, followed by sextuplets, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel, born four years later. Kate and Jon's family came under focus after they gained popularity on their TLC reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8, which was later renamed Kate Plus 8 after their split. After Kate and Jon's divorce, Collin and Hannah chose to live with their father, while the other six children stayed with their mother and cut off contact with Jon.

Years later, after Collin grew up, he started speaking out publicly about his grievances towards his mother. In September 2024, in an interview with The Sun, he accused Kate Gosselin of abusing him since he was about eight or nine years old. He alleged that his mother "isolated" him from his seven siblings and that he often took "the brute end of things." He further called that he was forced to sleep on a mattress in a basement and kept hidden from the world. As per him, the room remained locked from the outside with zip-ties, and behind the closed doors, he was subjected to physical abuse by his mom.

Kate's attorney, Richard Puleo, reacted at that time, fuelling rumours that the accusations were true. Richard did not deny the abuse claims when asked about it and stated that Kate never did "intentionally harm" her son. He further shared that, "she did what she did to protect herself and her family" from an alleged "troubled behaviour."

In 2016, Kate Gosselin placed 12-year-old Collin into a residential behavioural health facility. Hw claimed that his mom gave him "powerful antipsychotics" so that the world thought that he was mentally not sound. Collin maintained he was sent to the medical facility purely because he was exposing his mother's abusive behaviour at home. He claimed that she used the means to silence him so he "wouldn't be able to put the secrets out." Kate denied the allegations, claiming that she put him in medical care after his series of violent outbursts. Mentioning the details in his memoir, Collin wrote in its synopsis:

"Collin is finally sharing the truth about being held down," the synopsis reads. "The basement cell where he was hidden for years, and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an eleven-year-old boy."

Collin Gosselin also accused his mother of having an affair with Steve Neild

Recently, Collin appeared on an episode of the Strange McKnights podcast, where he accused his mom, Kate, of cheating on his father. According to him, "Even before any articles came out, I always had information about [Kate's] relationship with Steve." The 22-year-old expressed his disappointment with his mother for her alleged infidelity, saying:

"When it does pertain to it being cheating, I think that's a different story. That should be put out there. I do not condone cheating. I do not appreciate it. I'm just very disappointed in my mother."
