As per the recent reports, the suspect caught on Nancy Guthrie's camera was reportedly spotted outside her home a night before her disappearance.
Famous journalist and Today Show's host, Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie is leading the headlines ever since the news of her missing. She was last spotted on January 31, 2026, at her home, and the investigation is still ongoing. The Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said authorities are getting closer to the suspect.
Earlier, the FBI released high-resolution surveillance photos and video clips from the ring camera footage from Guthrie's home. The footage revealed a potential suspect, a male with an average build and about 5-foot, 9-inches tall. He was seen wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.
Now, as per the latest report from CNN, the masked person seen on the doorbell camera footage of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s home the morning she is believed to have been kidnapped was also at her doorstep on another night. A source reveals that the man believed to be seen in the camera footage was seen roaming outside Nancy Guthrie’s home a night before her disappearance. However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department declined to comment on the update.
Recent investigations led the team to recover DNA from Nancy Guthrie’s property that does not belong to her. Earlier, a black glove was found two miles from Nancy's home which the officers believe belong to masked intruder seen on the victim's doorbell camera. A separate DNA was found on the glove.
Nancy Guthrie’s family received two ransom notes. Following this, Nancy’s kids, Savannah, Annie and Camron released a video, wherein they asked the abductor who sent the ransom note to contact them with proof that Nancy is safe and alive. It was also reported that the ransom note was possibly from someone who had the intention to harass the family, and seemingly not the one who was actually behind the kidnapping or abduction.
Amid this, a person has been detained in connection with it. As per a report, it is believed that the man, whose name is Derrik Callella, was arrested in Hawthorne, California. According to reports, Callella faced two federal charges, one being transforming communication, containing a demand for ransom for the release of a kidnapped person, and also making a call without revealing his identity, with the intent to harass and abuse a person.
Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos officially cleared Tommaso Cioni and all other members of Nancy Guthrie's family as suspects in her disappearance on February 16, 2026 (ET). The sheriff's department released a statement emphasising that they have been 100% cooperative in Nancy's search process and are considered victims in the case. The statement could be read as:
“To be clear…the Guthrie family – to include all siblings and spouses – has been cleared as possible suspects in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, but it is also cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I'm begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism."
