Yes, as per many reports and social media rumors, Vinod reduced his fee for the 1988 blockbuster film, Dayavan. According to multiple reports, Vinod reduced his price to accommodate the controversial lip-lock scene with Madhuri Dixit.
Madhuri was very young at the time and reluctant to kiss a much older Vinod Khanna. She expressed her discomfort to the director, Feroz Khan. There were many legal notices about the kissing scene, and it was tagged as one of the most controversial scenes of Hindi cinema. But despite the notices, Feroz was adamant about keeping the scene in the film.
The 1988 film Dayavan had a popular song, Aaj Phir Tum Pe Pyaar Aaya Hai, which was picturized on Vinod and Madhuri. While shooting the lovemaking scene in the song, Vinod allegedly lost control and continued kissing 20-year-old Madhuri despite the director yelling cut. The scene went so intense that Vinod reportedly kept kissing Madhuri for five minutes and even bit her lips. It was a shocking and devastating moment for the actress as she was left bleeding. However, after the scene, Vinod apologized to Madhuri.
After Dayavan's release, the kissing scene sparked considerable controversy. Feroz Khan, the film's director, was sent a legal notice to remove that scene, but he didn’t. Even Madhuri Dixit requested Feroz to remove the scene; however, the veteran actor-turned-director paid the actress Rs. 1 crore in compensation and retained the scene in the film. After the film's release, it became a blockbuster; however, Madhuri never worked with Vinod again after Dayavan.
In an old interview, as reported by Jansatta.com, Madhuri Dixit revealed that she was unaware that a particular intimate scene was being shot for the film. She mentioned that even today she feels shocked whenever she watches that moment on screen. The scene made Madhuri so uncomfortable that she learned her lesson.
During an interview with Radio Nasha, Madhuri spoke about the controversial kissing scene with Vinod Khanna. It left such a negative impact on her that she decided never to do something like that on the big screen. Speaking about the same, she said:
“Well, I think it’s a growing process or learning process. You learn something with everything, and I learned something from that, too. And after that I was very embarrassed, and I decided that this is something that’s not to be done.”
