Osho's brother, Swami Shailendra Saraswati, revealed that Vinod Khanna was extremely jealous of Amitabh Bachchan and would often cry.
Bollywood's once superstar, Vinod Khanna, left the world of glam and glitz for spirituality, and he became a follower of Osho. While his family was hurt and missed him terribly, Vinod Khanna also wasn't able to attain the peace he ran after. Vinod Khann went to Osho, who was then known as Bhagwan Rajneesh. Recently, in an interview with Osho's brother, Swami Shailendra Saraswati revealed a truth about him.
Recently, in an interview with Galatta India, Osho's brother, Swami Shailendra Saraswati, revealed that he had spent a lot of time with Vinod Khanna as they lived nearyby. He knew what Vinod Khanna was dealing with. He looked successful, but he wasn't, as he had his own insecurities. He said:
"I know what he was going through. People think that a successful man is successful in every way but that’s not it. They might be going through a lot otherwise, and only they know about it."
Shailendra Saraswati further recalled that Vinod Khanna would often cry, and when Osho asked him why he was upset, the actor stated that he missed his wife and children. However, Osho knew that Vinod Khanna was lying. In fact, it was Osho who told him that he was jealous of Amitabh Bachchan, who was his biggest competitor. Back then, acting was an extremely tough profession, and it often led to extreme jealousy in the hearts of people.
It is worth mentioning that ever since Vinod Khanna left the industry, Amitabh Bachchan rose to new heights and became a megastar. Shailendra Saraswati revealed Osho's conversation with Vinod Khanna and said:
"Osho said he is not missing his wife and kids. After Vinod moved to the US, Vinod’s biggest competitor, Amitabh Bachchan has become an MP, and unconsciously, he is deeply jealous of him. Vinod is not aware of that."
Osho suggested that Vinod Khanna fight the jealousy in a more channelled way. He told him to join the opposition party and contest elections against Amitabh Bachchan. However, Vinod Khanna denied the jealous factor, but Osho helped him. Recalling Vinod Khanna's mental and emotional breakdown in front of Osho, Shailendra said:
"Vinod broke down after he learnt this, and said this wasn’t the case. He said I don’t care about politics, I only miss my family. Osho said, ‘No, this isn’t it, you are just talking about your emotions on the surface level. You are hiding pain and I can see that. Your mind is superficial and it is telling you that you miss your kids. You are just jealous of Bachchan. You should fight against him."
Shailendra Saraswati further added that Vinod Khanna came back to India after this. However, he didn't connect with his family, whom he thought he was missing in the US. In fact, he fell in love with someone else and started a new family. It was much later, when Vinod Khanna accepted that Osho was right, that he wasn't connected with his wife or kids.
It was in the late 1980s when Vinod Khanna returned to India. Instead of going back to his family, he started a new life. He resumed his film career with a new focus. He went on to star in several hit films. He even served as a Union Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government. On the other hand, Amitabh maintained close ties with the Congress.
