Do you know Vikrant Massey and Tamannaah Bhatia didn't take a single penny for their roles in O'Romeo? Read on to know why.
Vikrant Massey is one of the most loved stars in Bollywood. The actor, who has been very choosy about his roles, will play an important role in Vishal Bharadwaj’s O’Romeo. But did you know Vikrant didn’t charge a penny for his role? Vishal Bharadwaj, who directed O’Romeo, opened up about the reason behind Vikrant’s gesture.
Speaking about Vikrant not charging any fee for O’Romeo, Vishal Bharadwaj stated that the commitment to O'Romeo was made several years ago, when he was still establishing himself in the Hindi film industry. But after the release of 12th Fail, Vikrant carved an important place in Bollywood. But despite his success, Vikrant honoured that early promise when Bhardwaj approached him again and chose to take the role for free.
Vishal further stated that Maqbool had been a life-changing experience for Vikrant, who was deeply influenced by it. The film made Vikrant choose a career in acting. So, taking up O’Romeo was more of a tribute to Vishal from Vikrant. The actor, who played a pivotal role in the film, shot for eight to nine days.
Apart from Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia too agreed to do a role in O’Romeo without charging a single penny. Although Tamannaah’s screen time is limited, her character is crucial to a major plot turn. What began as a brief role soon expanded, with Tamannaah spending nearly 12 days on set. Not just this, Tamannaah also participated in workshops and rehearsals.
Shahid Kapoor will be seen portraying the character of ‘Ustara’, a contract killer, who falls in love with 'Afsha' and gets caught in the web of love, betrayal, and revenge. According to several media reports, Shahid reportedly charged Rs. 45 crore for the film, making him the highest-paid actor in the project. On the other hand, Triptii, who plays 'Afsha', has reportedly earned Rs. 6 crore for her role. Avinash Tiwary, who will play 'Jalal', a ruthless antagonist, reportedly charged around Rs. 7 crore for his role in the film. Veteran actor Nana Patekar, who plays 'Ismail Khan', reportedly charged Rs. 4 crore for his role.
O’Romeo will see Vishal Bharadwaj donning the director’s hat after seven years. His last big screen venture was the 2018 drama Pataakha, starring Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan. Post Pataakha, Vishal is directing a segment in Modern Love: Mumbai, the short, film Fursat, and the SonyLIV mystery-thriller series, Charlie Chopra & the Mystery of Solang Valley. He also directed the Netflix spy thriller, Khufiya. O’Romeo brings Vishal Bhardwaj to the big screen after a long wait. The film also reunites Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj for the first time since Kaminey and Haider.
O’Romeo is scheduled for theatrical release on February 13, 2026.
