Vijay Thalapathy, who is one of the most famous Tamil superstars and also the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is undergoing a huge crisis in his personal life. This is after his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, recently filed for a divorce petition in Chengalpattu's district court. She has accused the actor of infidelity, and the news of divorce has come after the couple had been married for reportedly more than 26 years. Now, amid this, Vijay Thalapathy's old statement of calling his wife, Sangeetha, strict has now surfaced on social media. For the unversed, Vijay Thalapathy and Sangeetha had tied the knot on August 25, 1999 and are parents to two children- Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.
According to a report by the Sun TV, Vijay Thalapathy had once described his wife, Sangeetha, as a strict critic. She has been someone who has always followed Vijay Thalapathy's professional choices. The personal revelation by Vijay has come at a time when he is undergoing a legal battle. The remark made by the Tamil superstar was reportedly made during a 2022 interaction with director, Nelson Dilipkumar.
The petition filed by Vijay Thalapathy's estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam has seeked for the dissolution of her marriage under Sections 27(1)(a), (b), (d) read with Sections 36 and 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Vijay's personal life has taken a dramatic turn amid this, as Sangeetha, in her divorce filing, claimed that their marriage got registered back on July 10, 1998, in the United Kingdom. There was a Hindu wedding that happened on August 25, 1999, back at the Rajah Muthiah Mandram, Egmore, Chennai. Vijay's father and director, SA Chandrasekhar, had earlier revealed in an interview with NewsGlitz that when his son, Vijay, used to not listen to a lot of people, he used to value the feedback of Sangeetha, and she used to keep a strict watch on him.
Vijay Thalapathy's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, in her petition, claimed that her early years of marriage were harmonious and cordial. However, she alleged that it was in 2021 when she saw things changing after she discovered that Vijay was having an extramarital affair with an actress. Sangeetha was deeply hurt by the same, as she had undergone a lot of emotional and mental suffering. Vijay claimed that she had undergone a lot of betrayal, and there was also a violation of the marital trust she had in her relationship.
Sangeetha Sornalingam claimed that her husband, Vijay Thalapathy, had given her the assurance that his relationship would end. However, her petition claimed that she had to undergo mental cru**ty, public humiliation via varied social media notes, desertion which was done in a constructive manner. Sangeetha claimed that she was neglected emotionally. She claimed that both of them had to undergo counselling and personal discussions between September 2021 and February 2022, and between August 2024 and February 2025. However, it had failed to create a mutual settlement.
Vijay Thalapathy's wife, Sangeetha, has always been away from the limelight, and her absence earlier had triggered a lot of rumours related to their separation, which was earlier reported as baseless. Sangeetha and Vijay have reportedly kept their kids always out of the public limelight. Both, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha have grown up away from the media glare and have just made public appearances.
