Usman Khawaja became emotional when he saw his wife, Rachel, break down during his last match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Australian cricketer, Usman Khawaja's farewell Test on the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) became an emotional one. This is because his wife, Rachel, who was watching her husband play from the stands one last time, could not control her tears. As Usman played his last match, he became emotional after seeing his wife, Rachel, teary eyed. The cricketer had to make many sacrifices in his career while Rachel stood by him. As Khwaja retired, the crowd applauded, and the cameras captured Rachel's emotional reaction that went viral on social media.
A user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote about Usman Khwaja drawing a curtain on his illustrious career. It was a touching moment on the cricket field to see his wife, Rachel, in tears as Khwaja played his final match for Australia. Khwaja's cricket chapter, which was remarkable, closed on a very emotional note. He left the field one last time as an international cricketer, dropping to his knees. Usman's wife, Rachel, from the stands, was teary-eyed, seeing him kiss the turf as he made his exit.
Usman Khwaja, after blowing a kiss to his wife, Rachel, and his family in the crowd, put his forehead on the Sydney Cricket Ground turf where, "Thanks Uzzy #419" was written. Usman showed his gratitude as never before had an Australian cricketer signed off like this. Later, in an interview with Channel 7, the 39-year-old cricketer revealed that his wife, Rachel, had given him a lot of support, which helped him build a successful career in cricket. In his words:
"You don’t always get the fairy tale where I score the runs in the end. And I kind of like that in some respect. When it happened, I got over that after a few seconds. I looked over and saw Rachel. You know, my family was up there, gave them kisses and the love because without her I wouldn’t be here right now."
Usman Khwaja has announced his retirement from international cricket. Usman's retirement has marked the end of his cricket career, but his fans have always been interested in his relationship with Rachel. She was born in Australia and reportedly grew up in either Sydney or Brisbane. It was at the University of New South Wales that she completed her higher education and earned a degree in Marketing.
When Rachel was at the university, she met Usman back in 2015. Their relationship bloomed, and in 2016, the couple got engaged. However, Rachel, before her marriage, had personally decided to convert from her Catholic religion to Islam. Rachel had made this conscious decision as she was deeply rooted in understanding faith and religion. It was in 2017 that Usmain and Rachel had a nikaah ceremony, and in 2018, they had a wedding celebration. The couple has created a family together as they have been blessed with two daughters- Aisha Rahil Khwaja and Ayla Fozia. Usman earlier in an interview with Cricket. com had also revealed of having mixed feelings when he went to bat one last time. He called the feeling as a mixture between being really relaxed and being nervous.
