A 19-year-old influencer died of a rare cancer two weeks after she pleaded in an open letter that she didn't want to leave yet.
A young Dutch influencer, Jade Kops, who was just 19 years old, died of a rare cancer on April 24, 2026. The young influencer would often share details of her cancer and how she was combating it. However, in her last post two weeks ago, Jade penned a heart-wrenching open letter, wherein she bared her heart out on how she was scared of what's coming.
Jade Kops, a 19-year-old influencer, wanted to live and experience life, but all she was able to see was hospital rooms, surgeries and painful treatment. While her hopes of getting better were high, time diminished them, and she feared what was coming next. Two weeks before her death, Jade penned a heart-wrenching open letter, addressing her 'Annoying Tumour'.
Jade was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, at the age of 14. She spent the last five years of her life fighting the rare disease. Through her social media posts, she would raise awareness of childhood cancer. She had also written a bestselling book, Voor Altijd Jong (Forever Young).
Coming back to her last letter, Jade shared that she had last written in November 2025, when she had a different stage of cancer. She had hoped earlier that she was able to make plans and do fun things with her hopes high of having more time, but it all slipped away from her hands. She knew the bomb was ticking and could explode anytime. She wrote:
"In November I wrote my last letter to you. I was already treated then, but lived in a completely different stage than now. In November I could still make plans, do fun things, and hope for more time. Now it feels like that grip is slowly slipping from my hands. The ticking time bomb has exploded. Everything has changed and nothing is obvious anymore."
Jade further penned how her days were spent in bed with four pumps and medication. It shows how close the end is, and every night she sleeps, afraid of not waking up the next morning. She called it the biggest nightmare. She further stated that the cancer was taking up more space in her life, and slowly, the goodbye is near. She was scared of what might come and how fast everything would end. She wrote:
"It feels like you're taking up more and more space in my life. I am slowly saying goodbye to myself as I was. My world gets smaller, while you get bigger. And that scares me. I'm scared of what's coming and scared of how fast everything will go. Sometimes every day feels like a 'fight' that I can't win, but can only endure."
In the end, Jade mentioned how the tumour was bringing her closer to death, and she didn't want to leave so soon. She wanted more time and to be with the people she loves. She sweetly penned how the tumour doesn't leave but just slows down so that she could get more time. She concluded by writing:
"You bring me a day closer to death, but I don't want to leave yet. I still want to be here. Stay for a while, feel for a while and be close to the people I love. So when you don't leave, but still stay, dear tumor.. slow down then please. Give me time. I’m still happy and far from ready to go."
A spokesperson for the Kops family penned the news of the Dutch influencer's death. The post stated that the family is incredibly proud of their brave daughter and sister. They added that she passed away at 5:50 a.m. in the presence of her loved ones. They added that the farewell and burial of Jade will take place in private.
