Twisha Sharma's parents revealed the delayed formalities robbed them of their daughter's last rites as per the Hindu traditions.
Twisha Sharma’s death has shocked the entire nation to its core. For the unversed, the 33-year-old former model was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026. It was in December 2025 when Twisha tied the knot with Bhopal-based criminal lawyer, Samarth Singh. However, within a few months of the marriage, issues began to crop up between the couple. Her death led to multiple legal formalities and two postmortems, which eventually delayed her cremation.
According to Hindu tradition, a person’s last rites should take place within 13 days of the mourning period. However, Twisha’s body was caught between post-mortem formalities and forensic procedures for two weeks, which delayed the last rites rituals. As the family received Twisha’s body, her brother, Major Harshit Sharma, stepped forward to light his sister’s funeral pyre at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat in Bhopal.
Twisha’s shattered family, while grieving their hearts out, said that the legal procedures delayed Twisha’s cremation and forced the family to violate her last rites as per Hindu traditions. The family stated that the customary 13-day mourning rituals central to Hindu beliefs had already been disrupted. Twisha’s friend revealed that the family has bared ‘unimaginable pain’ after the prolonged wait.
After Twisha’s mysterious death, the family claimed that she was subjected to mental harassment and was pressurised to get more dowry after marriage. She was subjected to domestic violence. The family accused her husband and mother-in-law of the reason behind her death. The family further claimed that Twisha called her mother at 10:05 p.m. on the night of the incident and talked about the harassment she was suffering at her matrimonial home.
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, told BBC Hindi that the last time they spoke to her was on May 12, 2026, the night of her death. The former actress and model was talking to her mother when suddenly the line dropped. Their calls went unanswered for the next 20 minutes, and later Giribala picked up their phone and informed them that Twisha was no more.
As per the investigation, Twisha was found hanging in her home, but her parents have called it a murder. Amid this entire case hitting the headlines, Twisha's last messages to her mom surfaced. In the chats to her mother, Twisha indicated a pregnancy, a subsequent abortion and references to Samarth Singh questioning the paternity of the child.

Twisha’s family alleged that her husband, Samarth and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, questioned her character and also accused her of carrying someone else’s child. They alleged that Twisha’s in-laws forced her to undergo an abortion in the first week of May 2026.
