CBI seeks a five-day remand of Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh

Following the Madhya Pradesh High Court's decision to quash Giribala Singh's anticipatory bail, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made stern calls, seeking to keep Giribala and her son, Samarth Singh, in police custody for five days. The development comes hours after CBI arrested Twisha Sharma's mother-in-law on Thursday, May 28, 2026. According to the reports, the CBI told the court that custodial interrogation was extremely necessary in the case, especially to piece together the events that led to Twisha's death.

For the unversed, the Supreme Court transferred the probe to the CBI after concerns about "institutional bias" made an independent investigation inevitable. Since then, the probe has been intensified, and Samarth Singh, who was arrested by the state SIT from Jabalpur, has also been handed over to the CBI. Additionally, CBI has also recreated the crime scene at Twisha Sharma's Bhopal residence and carried out detailed videography and forensic examination.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has cancelled Giribala Singh's anticipatory bail, citing WhatsApp chats, injury marks on Twisha Sharma's body and allegations of harassment as the significant factors for custodial interrogation. Sources have alleged that the CBI has also been examining claims related to dowry demands and an alleged attempt to malign Twisha's character. For the unversed, Giribala was arrested by the CBI after an over-seven-hour interrogation session on May 28, 2026. The Bhopal court has now reserved its order on the CBI's plea seeking seven-day police custody of both accused.
