Timothy Busfield complained to the jury that his "career is done" as he faces child sex abuse charges. In court documents obtained by USA Today, the actor could be heard mourning his career, claiming he has been canceled since the allegations broke. He explained how he has lost out on work because of the case, and even admitted that it has impacted his family as well. He stated:
"My children, grandchildren, everybody in my life is done because of these false allegations for money and for revenge. These two criminals [the boys' parents] have ruined me. And my wife [Melissa Gilbert] and her business, I'm not going to break that. I'll never work again just because of people's fear that I would do this again, and even if it wasn't true, I'm done. I've lost TV shows and a movie they've digitally replaced me in. My agency fired me. I'm done. This is not about me or a pity thing."
During his testimony, Timothy Busfield denied inappropriately touching the boys. However, admitted to tickling them and having his arms around them. He also claimed that the twin boys and their parents have placed false allegations against him because the child actors were dropped from the fourth season of The Cleaning Lady, which he produced and occasionally directed.
"[The boys] are the victims of these criminals. It's terrible. I shouldn't call them criminals. The parents would coach the kids and manufacture [the lies]. I find that horrible for those young boys' lives, that they're going to have to live with those lives."
For the unversed, Timothy Busfield was arrested in January 2026 on charges of child abuse and criminal sexual contact of a minor. According to reports, he was charged for allegedly inappropriately touching the two 7-year-old actors on the Fox series. One of the boys claimed the actor touched his genitals over his clothes several times. However, Timothy has denied the allegations.

For the unversed, the actor has been married three times. He was first married to Radha Melamarter, an actress and director known for her work in Lucky Luke, from 1981 to 1986.
