The Boroughs is the latest sci-fi mystery on Netflix. It was on May 21, 2026, that it premiered and has become one of the most talked-about series. It has been produced by the Duffer Brothers, who created Stranger Things. The show showcases senior citizens instead of teenage heroes who are living in a retirement community. The six-episode series has Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Geena Davis and Denis O’Hare, who are the residents of a community that has a set of varied mysteries.

Ending of The Boroughs explained: Does the team manage to get 'Mother' down?

Well, for most of the season in The Boroughs, the residents of the retirement community feel that 'Mother' is actually the monster responsible for all the attacks and deaths. Well, by the final episodes, they come to know that the underground creatures are actually feeding on the elderly residents. The Boroughs CEOs, Blaine and Anneliese Shaw (Seth Numrich and Alice Kremelberg), have used the creatures to maintain the forever youth. Well, 'Sam' a.k.a. Alfred Molina comes to know, via his psychic visions related to his dead wife, 'Lilly'.

It is via another patient named in 'The Manor' that 'Mother' is actually not the villain but a captive creature 'The Shaws' has exploited for decades and is also forcing her offspring to feed on all the residents. This is because restorative fluid can be harvested from her blood. Well, in the final episode, 'Wally' (Denis O'Hare) is seen smuggling 'Mother' out of the lab, while 'Paz' and 'Ree' (Carlos Miranda and Geena Davis) free her offspring.

Well, at one end, 'Shaws' had cornered 'Sam' and 'Claire' (Jena Malone) along with 'Waly' at Sam's home. 'Sam' and 'Claire' are then seen activating a wall of old TVs, whose light frequency is destabilised. 'Judy' (Alfre Woodard), who is seen being badly injured, is then seen reuniting with her offspring in the cave, and then there was a massive energy blast that kills 'Blaine' and even her. 'Sam' is seen surviving and also celebrating then with his friends and family.
