'The Boroughs' Season 1 has left the audience emotional. Amid the buzz, continue reading to know what will happen in the possible Season 2.
Netflix series, The Boroughs, is currently the talk of the town. The eight-episode series has already created a buzz on social media due to its emotional, heart-wrenching storytelling and its stellar ensemble cast. Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, The Boroughs premiered on May 21, 2026, on Netflix. Stranger Things creators, the Duffer brothers, produced the Netflix series, The Boroughs. The open ending of Season 1 makes it seem like the story of The Boroughs might continue further.
The story of The Boroughs Season 1 follows a band of unlikely heroes who team up to fight against a supernatural monster. The monster is targeting the fellow residents of their idyllic retirement community called The Boroughs. The supernatural monster, that is a multi-legged creature, was first spotted by the newcomer and a grieving widower, 'Sam Cooper' (played by Alfred Molina). 'Sam' witnesses the monster killing his first friend at The Boroughs, 'Jack' (played by Bill Pullman).
Determined to uncover the supernatural beast responsible for murdering his friend, 'Sam' teams up with his neighbours, 'Art' (played by Clarke Peters), 'Judy' (plays Alfre Woodard), 'Wally' (played by Denis O’Hare), 'Renne' (played by Geena Davis) and 'Renne's' boyfriend and law enforcement officer, 'Paz' (played by Carlos Miranda). The group of retirees soon discovers that there is not only one deadly creature targeting their community but a whole army of creatures that feeds on the residents’ cerebrospinal fluid as they sleep.
The whole army of creatures is the children of a monster called 'Mother'. The golden blood of 'Mother' contains magical powers. This golden blood allows those who drink it to never age another day. The founders of The Boroughs, 'Blaine' (played by Seth Numrich) and 'Anneliese Shaw' (played by Alice Kremelburg) and their close friends have been drinking 'Mother's' golden blood for years, keeping themselves in a state of permanent youth.
The founders of The Boroughs created the community for retirees to have an endless supply of senior citizens for 'Mother' and her children, ensuring that they would never run out of 'Mother's' magical powers. When 'Sam' and his group get to know the truth behind the creation of The Boroughs, they hatch a dangerous plan to put an end to the horrors happening behind the scenes.
Creators, Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews are interested in continuing the story of The Boroughs. But as of now, Netflix has not yet renewed The Boroughs Season 2. In an interview with IGN Nordic, Jeffrey shared that they purposely made the open ending of The Boroughs Season 1 to set up a possible Season 2. Jeffrey added that they already have a full three-season plan. He was quoted as saying:
"That we have ideas for season two and know where it goes, and it builds directly off that moment, and nothing about that shot was done idly. We have a very specific three-season plan, and we think we know the last shot of the last scene of the last episode."
Keeping the final scene of The Boroughs Season 1 in note, Season 2 might have more supernatural elements. In the final scene, 'Sam's' reflection in the mirror had a glitch. Earlier, a similar kind of glitch happened when 'Mother' tried to connect mentally with 'Sam' through visions of his dead wife, 'Lilly.'
Season 1 ending hinted that 'Mother' might be alive in some other form, and something inside 'Sam' has changed, hinting at his secret connection with the supernatural world. The characters who are possibly returning with Season 2 are: Alfred Molina as 'Sam Cooper', Geena Davis as 'Renee', Alfre Woodard as 'Judy Daniels', Clarke Peters as 'Art Daniels', Jena Malone as 'Claire', Carlos Miranda as 'Paz Navarro', and Rafael Casal as 'Neil.'
