For the unversed, Thalapathy Vijay’s last film, Jana Nayagan, was initially scheduled to release on January 9, 2026. However, according to a recent report by The Times of India, York Cinemas in Canada, an overseas distributor, stated that the political-action thriller will not be released on April 30, 2026. Amid the ongoing debate surrounding the film’s release, the actor-turned-politician finally broke his silence on the following. At a recent campaign event for his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam addressed the matter. He was quoted as saying:
"You may try to silence me, but you cannot silence every Vijay in every household."
The story of Jana Nayagan revolves around two central characters. One is a hero who fights for the common people, and the other is a powerful antagonist who wants to rule and control the world. The duo crossed paths in the past and would again meet many years later. The film focuses on a child’s unspoken fear and struggle, which draws the protagonist, a former police officer. As their lives get intertwined, it goes beyond personal struggle.
Thalapathy Vijay will be seen in the role of a police officer. Bollywood star, Bobby Deol, will step into the shoes of the antagonist. Pooja Hegde will be the female lead. Alongside Thalapathy Vijay, Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde, the high-octane political action thriller directed by H. Vinoth also stars, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and more.
Besides being a phenomenal actor, Vijay Thalapathy is also a politician. In 2024, he launched his own political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. According to the latest reports, he is set to contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections in 2026. Amid this, Vijay’s film, Jana Nayagan’s stalled release, stole the spotlight. In January 2026, during a media interaction, Vijay Thalapathy’s father, SA Chandrasekhar, spoke about the following. He mentioned that his son is not afraid of anything. He highlighted that the actor-turned-politician’s chances of succeeding are bright. SA Chadrasekhar was quoted as saying:
"The people know what happened in Karur. Vijay is not afraid of anything. His chances of success are bright. It is normal for those entering politics for the first time to face obstacles. Vijay will face any number of such obstacles."
Ever since, Jana Nayagan became the talk of the town, a rumour swirled on the internet that the upcoming film is a remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer, Bhagavanth Kesari. Speaking to the media in January 2026, director, H. Vinoth shut down the rumours. He mentioned that it is Thalapathy Vijay's film. He was quoted as saying:
"This is a Thalapathy film. Some people might think this is a remake and wonder why they should come and watch it. A few might even get angry. To them, I’ll say just one thing: Please wait until one show ends. You’ll get your answer. People who are coming to watch the film don’t need to worry about whether it’s a remake, whether a few scenes are inspired, or whether it’s just one scene."
