Thalapathy Vijay's Brother, Vikranth Expresses His Pride As He Becomes CM, 'Words Aren't Enough...'

Amid Thalapathy Vijay's oath-taking ceremony as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, his brother, Vikranth, expressed his happiness.

Thalapathy Vijay is currently going through one of the best phases of his life after his historical win in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election. He became the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. For those unaware, the actor-turned-politician is the founder and president of the political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Now, amid Vijay's win, the attention has also turned towards his family. And, among those who came out recently in support of Vijay, it is none other than actor, Vikranth, the cousin of Vijay.

Thalapathy Vijay's cousin, Vikranth, expressed his happiness at the former's win in the TN election 

Recently, actor, Vikranth, who is the cousin of Thalapathy Vijay, sat for a conversation on Zoom. Speaking with the outlet, he opened up about his pride and emotional support for Vijay's new political chapter. Expressing his happiness, he said:

“Words aren’t enough to say how proud we are of him as a family. We are elated about the love people have given him. For the last 35 years, people have been showing so much love on him, and I am sure they will continue to do so. I am confident that he will work towards the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. All of Tamil Nadu prays for him."

While speaking, Vikranth became nostalgic and recalled the good old days when he was growing up alongside Vijay, long before he became an actor and came into the political spotlight. Vikranth revealed that during their childhood, things were ordinary, but everything changed when Vijay entered the film industry and ended up with a massive fan base. He said: 

“Our childhood was good, but when Anna entered films and tasted success, he began seeing the love people have for him…it is that moment that he decided he will give it back to them."

For those unaware, Vikranth has been pretty supportive of his cousin, Vijay's political journey, especially in the last few months. When he cast his vote in April 2026, he posted a picture featuring a yellow whistle with the caption, “whistle podu.” For those wondering, Vikranth's post was seen by many as a symbolic nod to Vijay's film legacy and his new identity as TVK's leader. Additionally, the whistle is also linked to the hit song from the movie, The Greatest of All Time, hinting at the party's branding of connecting cinema and politics.

When Vikranth noticed that the election results were clearly favouring TVK, he continued making celebratory posts on his Instagram handle. This included updates featuring fire emojis. Fans also noticed the actor resharing an image of Vijay in his signature white shirt and beige trousers. He captioned the post, “Vijay wave.” It is worth noting that the picture was originally shared by his wife, actor, Maanasa.

About Vijay's cousin, Vikranth 

For those unaware, Vikranth comes from a family which belongs to the film background. In 2018, his mother, Sheela, appeared in the movie, Pandian Stores. Meanwhile, Vikranth's brother, Sanjeev not only as an actor but also behind the camera as a filmmaker.

Vikranth himself made his debut as a lead with Karka Kasadara. Since then, he has appeared in a number of projects across different languages. Some of his most recent works which we have seen recently include Bun Butter Jam, Madharaasi, Lal Salaam, and his Kannada release, Mark. In 2025, Vikranth was also seen in the 2025 web series, LBW: Love Beyond Wicket on the OTT giant, JioHotstar. 

Vijay Thalapathy's historical debut performance at the TN election 

Voting for the TN election in 2026 took place last month, on April 23, on the same day as the first phase of the West Bengal poll. Owing to Vijay's massive fan following, he emerged as a key player from the start. Talking about Vijay's victory, his father, SA Chandrasekhar, said:

"I think it's a historical success, a historical victory for Vijay. Tamil people loved him, not only as a leader. Every lady treats him like his own son, people treat him like their own brother. Sixty-year-olds consider him a grandson, he has developed that relationship with the public."
