The Jana Nayagan actor and his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam's marriage have hit a rough patch after 26 years of marital bliss. For the unversed, Thalapathy Vijay's wife, Sangeetha, has reportedly filed for divorce from him. The duo shares two children, son, Jason Sanjay and daughter, Divya Shasha.
According to the latest reports, Thalapathy Vijay’s son, Jason Sanjay, unfollowed his father on social media. Reportedly, Sangeetha accused her husband, Thalapathy Vijay, of having an extramarital affair with a female actress. Ever since, the alleged claim of Sangeetha surfaced online, netizens started linking Trisha Krishnan with Vijay. Thalapathy Vijay is one of the most celebrated actors in the Tamil film industry. Over the years, the Jana Nayagan actor has built a loyal fanbase who loves him for his acting prowess and charm. Years ago, in 2004, Thalapathy Vijay was asked how he had managed to carry himself so well. In response, he proudly accepted it was because of his wife, Sangeetha. He explained that it was happiness that adds charm to a person’s face. Thalapathy Vijay highlighted that his mother also played a significant role in the process. He was quoted as saying:
"I don’t know. I myself don’t know whether I am handsome or not. But I think my mother and my wife are the reason for this. If you are happy, that happiness shows. And that is what brings the beauty, I think."
Earlier, in an interview with Behindwoods TV, Vijay’s mother lauded her daughter-in-law, Sangeetha, for her sweet behaviour. She also praised her for being a doting mother to her kids. Vijay’s mom highlighted that Sangeetha personally checked everything herself and was a typical housewife. She was quoted as saying:
"She is a typical housewife. She is very beautiful and lovely. The way she has raised the children – I don’t think anyone could have done it better. One thing I truly admire about her is that she never relies entirely on maids when it comes to the kids. Whether it’s water or juice, she personally checks everything herself before giving it to them. That, to me, is a big plus."
In an old interview with Excuse Me, the Jana Nayagan actor was asked why he got married to his fan, Sangeetha. For the uninitiated, Vijay’s wife, Sangeetha, was a die-hard fan of him. She came to a set to congratulate Vijay for the massive success of his film, Poove Unakkaga, before their marriage. In response, Vijay shared that the main reason behind tying the knot with Sangeetha was her understanding nature. He mentioned that his wife always gave honest opinions after each of his films' release. Vijay added that his wife, Sangeetha, played the biggest role in his life. He was quoted as saying:
"She is very understanding – that’s the main reason. She gives honest opinions after each of my films' release. Her feedback is often on point. She would even tell me beforehand whether a film would work or not. Putting all that aside, she has played the biggest role in my life."
On February 27, 2026, the news of Thalapathy Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam’s separation surfaced on the internet. According to a report by The Indian Express, Vijay’s wife has filed for divorce at the Chengalpattu Family Court. Her petition was filed under Section (1)(a), (b), (d) and Sections 36 & 37 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
The next hearing is scheduled for April 20, 2026. Sangeetha’s petition states that she discovered an alleged affair involving Vijay and a female actress in April 2021. It is worth mentioning that the couple are parting ways after 26 years of marriage. For those unaware, the duo reportedly tied the knot on August 25, 1999, in Chennai. It was an interfaith marriage as Vijay is a Christian and his wife, Sangeetha, is a Hindu.
