In the upcoming Netflix revenge drama, 'Gandhari,' actress, Tapsee Pannu will reportedly be seen pulling off blindfolded action sequences.
Die-hard fans of actress, Taapsee Pannu might already be aware that she is soon supposed to star in the upcoming revenge drama, Gandhari. Now, before fans get to see the film on Netflix, sources have revealed that Taapsee will perform several unique action sequences, including ones where she is blindfolded. Yes, you read that right! It is worth noting that Gandhari's release date has not been announced yet, but from the promotional material we have seen so far, the storyline revolves around a mother fighting to protect her child.
Recently, sources close to the development of the upcoming revenge drama, Gandhari, have revealed some details about what fans can expect from Taapsee Pannu while talking with Hindustan Times. They revealed that Taapsee will perform a number of intense action sequences in Gandhari, but what's interesting is that the actress will perform them while blindfolded. They said:
“Taapsee Pannu is set to push boundaries like never before, performing intense action sequences while blindfolded, adding a whole new layer of challenge to her character.”
The source went on to add that this isn't just simple stunt work but a new way to think about action heroes. This is because, in the blindfolded fight scenes, Taapsee's character, deprived of sight, will have to rely heavily on her instincts, muscle memory, and inner strength. Doing this will effectively turn her “vulnerability into power.”
It is interesting to note that, similar to Taapsee Pannu's character, Gandhari, the Queen of Hastinapur, also famously wore a blindfold throughout her married life in the Mahabharata. She did this so that she could share the fate of her blind husband, ‘King Dhritarashtra.’ Over the years, many have interpreted ‘Gandhari's’ move as a form of devotion to her husband, while others think it was her defiance at finding out her husband was blind only after their marriage.
Another widely popular theory is that the blindfold is a metaphor of the blind love and hubris of ‘Gandhari’ towards her sons, the ‘Kauravas’, who end up dead after their fight with the ‘Pandavas.’ Fans can look forward to how the filmmakers will interpret this in the movie.
Directed by Devashish Makhija, Gandhari is written by Kanika Dhillon. Reportedly, Kanika also produced it under the banner of Katha Productions. The story of the film centres around a mother who perseveres in her search for her kidnapped child. The film's team revealed the same. Furthermore, according to a Hindustan Times report, Gandhari is expected to be released on Netflix this year, in 2026. Apart from Taapsee Pannu, the film also stars Swastika Mukherjee and Ishwak Singh.
It is worth noting that the announcement video for Gandhari contains no visuals. Instead, we get to hear a voiceover by Taapsee Pannu, who says, “They say a mother's blessing is always around. But when it comes to her child, she will turn the world upside down.” The video in question was released more than a year ago, in September 2024. At the time, the film was described as:
“Your favourite duo from Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba brings you another thriller, and another kind of love - the love between a mother and her child. Taapsee Pannu plays a fierce mom in Gandhari, a mystery produced and written by Kanika Dhillon.”
For those unaware, this is not the first time that Kanika and Taapsee have worked together in multiple hit films over the years. Some of their most notable projects include Manmarziyaan (2018), Haseen Dillruba (2021), Rashmi Rocket (2021), and Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba (2024).
