Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, now wants daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev, to be removed as a trustee from the RK Family Trust. The legal dispute does not seem to end.
After divorcing Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev Kapur. Now, the widow is involved in a legal mess over her multimillion-dollar estate, Sona Comstar. Now, the trouble all started when Sunjay and his ex-wife, Karisma, had approached the Delhi High Court and claimed that Priya had forged Sunjay's will. Now, Sunjay's mom, Rani Kapur, wants Priya removed as a purported trustee.
A recent report by the ANI revealed that the dispute related to the RK Family Trust has escalated significantly after Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, sought the removal of daughter-in-law Priya Sachdev as a trustee. The provisions of the trust deed are dated October 26, 2017. Sunjay Kapur's mom, Rani, claimed that the trust is alleged to hold assets, as she claims they are her own. Rani has raised questions related to the validity of the trust and its administration. According to the notice, Priya Kapur was appointed trustee after a meeting reportedly held on June 25, 2025, following her husband's demise on June 25, 2025.
A report by the News 18 mentioned that the Delhi High Court is questioning whether the assets were rightly placed in the RK Family Trust. Well, the case is going on, and the trust document known as the trust deed is being used to claim whether the trust is valid and is being run properly. The notice also mentioned that a specific rule, Clause 8.12 (i) in the trust deed, according to the rule, Priya Sachdev Kapur's mother-in-law, Rani has all the power to remove a trustee with no reason.
The validity of the RK Family Trust is under challenge before the Delhi High Court. Well, despite the same, it is being noted that the trust deed is being looked into. It was also asserted that, irrespective of whether the trust was found to be valid or invalid, Priya Kapur did not have any authority to act like a trustee post the expiry of the notice period. Well, she has been called to refrain from exercising any powers in that capacity.
Reportedly, as mentioned earlier, Rani Kapur has full power to remove Priya Kapur as a trustee, and this can take place 15 days post she receives the notice. Well, in her reply, a News 18 report mentioned that Priya Sachdev had accused Rani Kapur of suppressing all the facts and also asserted that the trust deed was kind of executed voluntarily. She had also cited IPO filings and other publicly available documents and argued that Rani Kapur had earlier knowledge related to the trust arrangement. The filing also called Rani Kapur's lawsuit like “frivolous, vexatious, and without cause of action and added that the false narrative created by Rani Kapur is inconceivable, according to what was submitted before the Delhi High Court.
For those who do not know, Sunjay Kapur has been the chairman of Sona Comstar. It was in 2003 when he married Karisma Kapoor and then was blessed with a daughter called Samaira back in 2005 and a son called Kiaan in 2011. It was in 2016 when the ex-couple had filed for divorce and after the same the businessman married Priya. Sunjay and Priya have a son called Azarias. Well, now the dispute in the Kapur family has intensified as Rani Kapur alleged that her family legacy was diverted and her consent was not taken.
