It was on December 20, 2025, when Malayalam veteran actor, Sreenivasan passed away. He once shared that he had a strained equation with Mohanlal.
South superstar, Mohanlal, along with director Sathyan Anthikad, came to Ernakulam Town Hall on December 20, 2025, in the afternoon. Both of them arrived to pay their last respect to veteran filmmaker and actor, Sreenivasan, who passed away at the age of 69 at a private hospital in Kochi. On December 20, 2025, Sreenivasan passed away, and his body was kept at Ernakulam Town for fans to pay their respects. However, do you know, Sreenivasan once revealed of not having a great relationship with Mohanlal.
Earlier, in an interview with The Screen, Sreenivasan was once asked about his friend and long-time co-star, Mohanlal. The late star called him a 'complete actor'. Sreenivasan once did a movie called Padmasree Bharat Dr. Saroj Kumar. In the film, Sreenivasan took subtle digs at Mohanlal. The film had made fun of Mohanlal's position of lieutenant colonel given to him by the Territorial Army of India. When Sreenivasan was asked if acting in the movie affected his relationship with Mohanlal, Sreenivasan had agreed and said:
Even otherwise our relationship was not that great (laughs out).”
Sreenivasan and Mohanlal had done movies such as Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Gandhinagar Second Street, Nadodikkattu, Akkare Akkare Akkare, Midhunam, Chandralekha, Kilichundan Maambazham, and Udayanaanu Thaaram. According to a report by The Screen, neither of them had a strong relationship. This is because Sreenivasan, who was an actor and screenwriter, was a big movie critic of Mohanlal. This had led to a lot of friction in their equation.
When Mohanlal came inside the Ernakulam Town Hall, videos surfaced on the social media. He could not hold his tears and was in a devastated state. For him and the entire Malayalam film industry, Sreenivasan's demise is a personal loss. Mohanlal and Sreenivasan had a long association. Mohanlal had taken to Facebook to reflect on his bond that he had with Sreenivasan and penned:
"Sreeni went without saying goodbye. I don't know how to describe the bond with Sreeni in words. Saw my own pains, joys and shortcomings through him on the screen. The characters that we played together remain timeless, only because of the magic in Sreeni. His creations were a reflection of the society. The beloved who captured the pain in laughter. On screen and in life, we traveled laughing, having fun, quarreling and getting along like Dasan and Vijayan. May the soul of dear Sreeni rest in peace."
According to a report by the PTI, Sreenivasan was facing a lot of health issues since some time. It was in 2022 when he underwent heart surgery. The report stated that he was travelling for dialysis to a private hospital in Kochi. Sreenivasan had got breathing difficulties and was then taken to the Government Taluk Hospital, Tripunithura. Sreenivasan was not keeping good health for a long period of time. He was also fed up with the ailments that he kept having all the time. Sreenivasan has been a towering personality in the Malayalam cinema. He was known for his work as an actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker whose work had left a full-on cultural impact. His demise has created a sea of grief among fans and the entire Malayalam film fraternity.
