Film On Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Of Raja Raghuvanshi, Victim's Family Gives Approval

Filmmaker, SP Nimbawat is all set to bring back the shocking Meghalaya murder incident of Raja Raghuvanshi, to the big screen, in his next film, which is tentatively titled, 'Honeymoon in Shillong'.

The brutal murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, which made national headlines in June 2025, is making headlines once again, but for a different reason. Months after the incident that shocked the nation, a film based on this has been announced. It will be titled, Honeymoon in Shillong and will be made by the filmmaker, SP Nimbawat.

SP Nimbawat talks about the film, Honeymoon in Shillong

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the filmmaker of this film, SP Nimbawat, shared his thoughts and said that this is one of the biggest subjects in recent times. He also shared that, if not him, somebody else would definitely make a film on this subject. In his words: 

"Dil mein dard to sabhi ke tha; this is one of the biggest subjects in recent times, and if not me someone else would have made the film. It’s a complete package of relationship, marriage, murder, adventure and the entire nation has followed it."

He continued by adding that he has the broader storyline prepared. He is on the hunt for a good scriptwriter and then later, after the cast is decided, he will begin shooting for it. He shared that eighty percent of the film will be shot in Indore and remaining in Shillong. When asked about fictional elements, he said that the broader story will remain the same, but a few fictional elements will be added to it. In his words: 

"I have prepared the broader storyline and we are now bringing scriptwriters and hope to begin shooting later this year, after locking the script and cast. Eighty percent will be shot in Indore and the remaining in Shillong. The broader story will remain the same but to mount a feature film for the big screen we will package it with other fictional elements too."

Raja Raghuvanshi’s family gives consent for the film

Raja Raghuvanshi's family, especially his brothers, Sachin and Vipin Raghuvanshi gave consent for the film. They expressed that the nation needs to know the truth about what exactly happened with Raja. They also shared that they want to present the correct picture of Meghalaya through the film. In an interview with PTI, the brothers had said: 

"We gave our consent for the upcoming film on the murder case. We believe that if we do not bring the story of [our] brother’s murder on the big screen, people will not know who was right."

What happened to Raja Raghuvanshi?

In May 2025, a businessman from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi got married to Sonam Raghuvanshi and the couple left for Meghalaya for their honeymoon. The couple was last seen trekking near Nongrait village, before Raja suddenly disappeared. On June 2, 2025, Raja's body was found in the Wei Sawdong Falls. As the investigation started, it was revealed that this was a well planned murder and the prime suspect was Raja's wife, Sonam. She was suspected to have an affair with Raj Kushwaha and both of them killed Raja.

After the murder, Sonam allegedly left the scene, changed her clothes and traveled across different states, trying to fake her own disappearance as a kidnapping victim. Reportedly, after a few days, she surrendered in Uttar Pradesh and it was found that three of Raj's friends were also involved, who attacked Raja. Within a few days, everybody was arrested in Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh.
