A majority of the crew members returned to their respective positions, including Jeff Fowler, who has been directing the films since the first entry in 2020.
Filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has already started in March 2026. For the unversed, the franchise is based on a popular video game series of the same name. Apart from three feature films, the franchise also includes a miniseries, titled Knuckles, who was introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022. Knuckles premiered on Paramount+ in 2024 and received positive reviews, specifically for being able to attract family and kids. Three short films focusing on 'Sonic' have also been released between 2020 and 2024. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is additionally trending as the entire cast for the sequel has been officially revealed.

Among the new entries, actress Kristen Bell is going to play an important part. She is going to give her voice to a pink creature, called 'Amy Rose,' who develops feelings towards 'Sonic.'
'Knuckles' and 'Tails' are also returning, and their characters will be voiced by Idris Elba and Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Keanu Reeves will give his voice for 'Shadow.' On the other hand, Jim Carrey will reprise his role as 'Dr. Robotnik.' James Marsden and Tika Sumpter are also returning as 'Tom' and 'Maddie Wachowski.' The remaining characters will be portrayed by James Marsden, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade. Ben Schwartz will return as 'Sonic.'
The producers have maintained silence in terms of the main plot for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. However, the conclusion of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hinted at a lot of things that can be expected in the fourth entry. 'Dr. Ivo Robotnik' and 'Shadow' managed to save Earth from being destroyed by 'Dr. Gerald Robotnik’s' Eclipse Cannon. Viewers have been left confused until today about whether 'Ivo' survived the explosion. 'Shadow' was later revealed to be alive. As mentioned, Jim Carrey is returning as 'Ivo,' which means that he has survived, and the sequel could explore how he managed to do it.
The introduction of the 'Metal Sonic' robots also created the possibility of a bigger conflict in the sequel. 'Shadow' might join 'Sonic,' 'Tails,' 'Knuckles,' and 'Amy Rose' to take down the robots. Moreover, the friendship between 'Sonic,' 'Tails,' and 'Knuckles' could be affected in some way due to 'Amy Rose.' While 'Amy' is going to have a crush on 'Sonic', her feelings might impact the decisions that would be taken in times of need.
The release date of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was revealed in January 2026, and it is arriving on March 19, 2027. A title reveal video was released on March 19, 2026, providing a glimpse of the main characters to be featured in the upcoming sequel. The video has received millions of views in only 14 hours. Apart from this, a spin-off film was also confirmed by Paramount in December 2025. Although there is no title for the movie yet, a release date of December 22, 2028, has been locked for now.
