It is worth mentioning that after her divorce from Joe Manganiello, Sofia revealed the one deal-breaker she has for romantic relationships, which also played a part in her going separate ways from her ex-husband.
Sofia Vergara did not shy away from speaking about her love life after her split from Joe Manganiello. In an interview with PEOPLE, the Modern Family star opened up about the challenges she often has to face while dating in the public eye. She also revealed what she was looking for in a romantic partner.
According to Sofia, a lot of things get exaggerated and are not interpreted in the right way when dating in Hollywood. Even though it makes having relationships hard, Sofia acknowledged that you have to get used to it. She believes that it comes with being famous, and it's not fair to complain about it. In her words:
"Everything [is challenging]. Because everything gets so exaggerated. Everything sometimes gets not interpreted the right way. So life is already hard. Having relationships is hard. Problems are hard. And then to see it out there and be completely changed, you want to be like, ‘What is going on?’ But you just get used to it. It comes with being famous, so you can’t complain that much."
For the unversed, court documents reveal that Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara separated on July 2, 2023. They officially announced their split via a joint statement a few days later. The statement could be read as:
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
Coming to what she wants in a romantic relationship after her split with Joe, the actress claimed that she was not asking for much. She said, “Health. Money. Fun. With kids. That's it. That's all I want.” Sofia made it clear that she does have one deal-breaker: “No more kids.”
Sofia Vergara had previously revealed that her and Joe’s difference in opinion about wanting children had played a significant part in their separation. She said that Joe was four years younger than her and had never had kids before. Meanwhile, Sofia is the mother of her son, Manolo, 35, whom she shares with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez. Sofia added:
"He decided he wanted kids and I didn’t want them. It was like: 'Imagine, when this child would be 10 years old, I’ll be 60-something. That’s a grandma! I know the sacrifices you need to make to be a good mother. You have to be present. And my career is important to me. I cannot disappear. A lot of people rely on me."
Sofia Vergara is currently in a relationship with Douglas Chabbott. The duo was first linked romantically in December 2024 after they were spotted leaving a New York restaurant alongside Sydney Sweeney and her then-fiancé, Jonathan Davino. Sofia confirmed their relationship in April 2025 when she posted a selfie with the businessmen on her Facebook with the caption, “Luv u.”
