During the trailer launch of Jersey, Shahid Kapoor revealed how the director of the film was worried after taking the first shot of Pankaj Kapoor.
Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the finest actors of Bollywood. With performances in movies like Jab We Met, Udta Punjab, Haider, Kaminey and Kabir Singh, Shahid had proved that he is not merely the stereotypical chocolate boy of Bollywood. Son of veteran actor, Pankaj Kapoor and actress-dancer, Neliima Azeem, Shahid had always wanted to make it big in Bollywood and match up to his father.
There is no doubt that Shahid Kapoor is an extremely loving husband and a protective father, but he also shares an equally warm bond with his father, Pankaj Kapur. Pankaj Kapur is known as one of the iconic actors of Bollywood with an array of finest films like Maqbool, Roja, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro etc., to his credit.
Shahid Kapoor had earlier shared the screen space with his father in movies like Shaandaar and Mausam, and the father-son duo will next be seen in the much-awaited film, Jersey. During the trailer launch of the film, Shahid recalled the first day of his shoot with his father, Pankaj Kapoor. The handsome actor revealed how the director was stunned by Pankaj's performance and asked Shahid whether he will be able to match up to him. Sharing details of the same, Shahid stated:
"There is a scene where we (Shahid and Pankaj Kapur) are having tea together. That was our first day together. I had shot for 15 days already. So for some reason, Gowtam (Tinnanuri) took his shot first. My dad did the take and suddenly Gowtam's expression changed. Then he (took me) to the corner and I was like ‘what happened?’ He was like ‘Sir, will you be able to match his performance because he is outstanding.”
The Kabir Singh actor further shared how he is not intimidated by his father but just wishes to give his best shot. In his words:
"I am not intimidated by him, but I wanted to do my best. It’s amazing to stand with a great actor like him. It’s just amazing seeing what he is doing with his craft. When I worked with Irrfan sir, Tabu ma'am, Kay Kay sir, and him – it’s always a learning experience. It’s scary when you feel you are the best thing in anything. You should always learn.”
When Shahid had made his debut with Ishq Vishk, the entire world had tagged him as a chocolate boy. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Pankaj Kapur had revealed that when people in the film fraternity had termed Shahid as a chocolate hero, he knew that there is more to him as an actor. He had said:
“Not just because he is my son, but as a colleague and as an actor, I could see the potential in him even 10 years back, when he was only being judged as a good-looking chocolate hero.”
Shahid Kapoor's upcoming film, Jersey is slated to release on December 31, 2021.
