Seema Pahwa claims that doing housework is women's 'nature'

As Seema Pahwa and Manoj Pahwa recently starred in the web series, Perfect Family, in an interview with Digital Commentary, they shared their views on Indian households. The veteran actress claimed that the work between men and women must have been divided by nature. She stated that "women are soft by nature" and "a mother since birth". Hence, it was decided that men would go out and work, and women would stay home and take responsibility for the household, according to Seema.

Citing her own example, Seema said that she is a career-oriented woman too, but she has balanced both her work and her home. The actress said she never rebelled against her 'duties' and found satisfaction in them. Seema said that she cooks for her husband and actor, Manoj Pahwa, before a shoot and feels good about it. The actress further opined that women despising housework are 'going against their nature'. Seema was quoted as saying:

“I cook for Manoj when he goes for a shoot and I tell him that I’m not doing this for you, I’m doing this for myself because I feel good about it... I talk like an old woman to the youngsters when they revolt about gender roles. What is the problem in doing housework? I am also a career-oriented woman, and I am balancing both work and home. If we despise housework, then we as women are going against our nature."

Manoj Pahwa shares his views on modern societies and the 'genetic behaviour' of men and women

Seema's husband, Manoj, who is also a well-known actor, shared his similar views on the subject. The actor explained gender roles through supposed 'genetic behaviours'. Manoj said that when men went hunting and were responsible for providing food, women would stay home to take care of the children. However, women in modern societies are 'trapped' since they have to do both, opined Manoj. The actor claimed that housework is 'genetically ingrained' in women, however, now they also want to step outside and earn. He said:

“In modern society, girls got trapped because this nature is genetically ingrained in them but they also want to become independent. Double chakkar mein khud hi phas gaye. Now they have to do both—house and outside work... It takes thousands of years to change genetic behaviour. And now we are seeing a few examples of men staying at home when the women have a good career."
