Savannah Guthrie shares a warm, professional, and personal bond with Matt Lauer. However, the bond took an awkward turn when Savannah accidentally mentioned her husband as 'Matt' on air. Yes, it happened when she was going on maternity leave for her first child. She referred to her husband as 'Matt' on Today show. However, after the goof-up, Guthrie admitted that she had mixed up her at-home and on-air other halves before as well.
Everyone laughed at Savannah's slip of tongue. However, Lauer joked that it was their secret. He said, "Shh, that's our secret! Matt at work, Mike at home. I'm not paying for college for Vale and Charlie, all right?" However, Guthrie's husband, Michael Feldman, was cool about it. In fact, when he brought both his children to his wife's set for a visit, he joked that he had instructed his daughter to say, 'Hi daddy' to Matt Lauer.
After her ugly divorce, love knocked on the doors of Savannah's heart again the same year. Savannah Guthrie met Michael Feldman in October 2008 while she had stepped away from her first marriage. The Today host attended Michael's 40th birthday party and was there with a mutual friend. After which, Savannah got officially divorced in 2009. Later the same year, she started dating Michael Feldman, who was a political consultant at that time. According to Savannah, she met a political consultant at a party who made her laugh. It was enough for her to fall in love again.
Talking about their engagement, they had a funny story: the two had broken up the same day Feldman got down on one knee and proposed to Savannah. In 2019, she revealed that they were on a vacation in Turks and Caicos. They were at a point when they didn't think that they would get married. However, during the trip, Savannah asked Feldman to decide whether to marry or end things. However, Feldman told her to spend the day with him, as he had already made up his mind and was going to propose to her. Guthrie recalled:
"It got to the point where no one thought we were ever going to get married — including us, especially including me. We were kind of at that point in life where it was like, we're either going to have to decide to get married or we're just going to have to love each other but let each other go."
Feldman convinced her to spend the day with her. While she was worrying about their future, he had already bought her a ring. As the sun went down on the shores, Michael proposed to Savannah, and she said yes within 0.2 seconds. The host announced her big news on the show, Today and joked that their families have been in-laws for years, but they were just waiting for them to catch up. Guthrie and Feldman were married in March 2014 in an intimate ceremony with around 80 to 90 guests. After exchanging their vows, the two announced their first pregnancy as Savannah was expecting her first child. Savannah and Michael's family has two children — one daughter and a son.
