On Monday, May 11, 2026, Savannah Guthrie honoured her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie in the most subtle way on 'The Today Show' after Mother's Day.
Savannah Guthrie and her family have been going through the hardest days of their lives ever since the beginning of this year, after the Today host's mom, Nancy, was kidnapped on February 1, 2026. Even though countless search efforts have been made to find the missing 84-year-old for the past few months, there have been no new updates about her whereabouts yet. Now, after spending the first Mother's Day without Nancy, fans notice Savannah honouring her mom in the most subtle way on Today.
This Sunday marked the first Mother's Day that the much-loved Today show host, Savannah Guthrie, spent without her mother, Nancy Guthrie. This is why, in honour of her mum, Savannah donned a special colour for Monday morning's Today Show. According to reports, Savannah came into the studio on May 11, 2026, wearing a bright yellow long-sleeved shirt. She paired it with a yellow, green, black, and white plaid midi skirt. Coming to her accessories, Savannah layered necklaces, bracelets and rings with her attire.
It is worth noting that even though Savannah or anyone in the show explicitly mentioned her outfit choice, those who have been following Nancy Guthrie's missing case from the start might be aware that for the past three and a half months, the colour, yellow has represented the Guthrie family search. On the show today, Savannah announced that she would begin hosting a new Wordle game show, which is being executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon. Savannah shared:
"When everything happened with me and my family, NBC just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you.’”
For those unaware, when Nancy disappeared on February 1, 2026, from her home in Arizona, the residents of the area began to leave yellow flowers and ribbons around her neighbourhood. At the time, one of Nancy's neighbours explained to People:
“The yellow ribbon is a sentiment of hope and support after someone goes missing.”
As per the National Museum of American Diplomacy, the symbol dates back a few decades to 1979. Apparently, when 52 US diplomats were held as hostages in Iran, a diplomat's wife had urged the public at the time to display yellow ribbons as a show of support. This was inspired by a song called Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree. Furthermore, on February 18, 2026, Hoda Kotb also mirrored a similar sentiment when she was filling in for Savannah during her extended absence on The Today Show.
Coming back to Savannah's outfit, this is not the first time that she has worn something yellow silently in an effort to send a message of love to her missing mother. On April 6, 2026, when she returned to her anchor's chair on Today, Savannah was seen sporting a yellow lace Elie Tahari dress. That's not all, she paired it with a yellow heart pendant on a gold paperclip chain necklace.
On the occasion of Mother's Day, Savannah Guthrie took to her Instagram handle to post a reel. The reel featured old family photos, including those of Nancy, her grandchildren, and Savannah's siblings. It is safe to say that those were some of the happier moments of the Today host's life, especially with her mother and sister, Annie. However, at the same time, the reel also highlighted how much Savannah has been missing Nancy since she disappeared. She penned an emotional caption which read:
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie – we miss you with every breath. We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
