A while ago, Satish Shah's cousin brother, Arvind Mamania, received the Padma Shri Award on the actor's behalf. For the unversed, many more actors received the award on June 23, 2026, by President Droupadi Murmu. The actor, who unexpectedly passed away in 2025 received the prestigious award for his contribution to Indian cinema and television. A few hours ago, Satish's brother, Arvind had a conversation with HT City, during which he said:
"We wished the honour would come earlier, when he was alive but nonetheless we cannot change what has happened. My wish is that when I receive the award on his behalf, he watches us from above and blesses us. Once I'm back in Mumbai, we plan to have a small celebration in his honour."
For those who do not know, Satish Shah’s wife, Madhu has been battling a major health disease for a long time now, Madhu Shah has Alzheimer and if reports are to be believed, she has not been doing well lately. The decision of Satish's brother, Arvind, to attend the award was made keeping Madhu's health and comfort in mind. Considering her health, it was difficult for her to travel and be present at the ceremony. During the same interview, Arvind spoke about Satish Shah's death and revealed the reason behind him receiving the award. He was quoted as saying:
"We have not yet come to terms with the shock (of his death) Seeing his wife everyday keeps reminding us of the kind of person he was. Our home was filled with laughter and smiles, now all of a sudden the happiness has vanished. It's a big vacuum. We are looking after her (Madhu Shah). She is precious to us too. He was more like a brother to me and his wife is unable to travel due to health reasons so she could not be present at the ceremony."
It was on October 25, 2026, when Satish Shah tragically passed away at the age of 74. The actor, who was known for his performances in Humshakals, Kal Ho Na Ho, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Main Hoon Na, Fanaa, Mujhse Dosti Karoge! and more, reportedly died due to a heart attack. The late actor was also dealing with kidney-related issues. His demise left millions of people in shock. His last rites were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium, in the presence of his family members and close ones.
At the funeral of Satish Shah, his co-stars from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai sang the iconic title track, as a heartwarming tribute to him. The video clip of the same made many fans emotional. Later, actor, Deven Bhojani shared that singing the title track was a tradition between them. Whenever the cast used to meet, they always used to sing the title track. It is worth mentioning that Satish's death had a major impact on his wife, Madhu Shah and her health.
At that time, actress, Ratna Pathak Shah revealed that Madhu Shah was unable to process what was happening. Soon after his death, Bollywood actor, Anupam Kher visited Madhu Shah. Recalling the visit, he shared, "For a flicker of a second, she (Madhu Shah) said, 'Chala gaya'. The moment she said 'chala gaya', she had tears in her eyes, and then again she lost her memory."
