Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were rumoured to be dating in the '90s. The actor had once revealed that he had apologised to Madhuri as the news of their affair had become the talk of the town.
It is a well-known fact that Sanjay Dutt has quite a long dating history. In his biopic, Sanju, it was stated that the actor had dated 308 ladies and he has been married thrice. While Sanjay Dutt is now happily married to Manayata Dutt, his alleged affair with Madhuri Dixit can never be forgotten.
For the unversed, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit’s affair was the talk of the town in the ‘90s. There were reports that the two had fallen in love with each other while shooting for their film, Saajan in 1991 and also had plans to get married. However, when Sanjay was arrested in the TADA case in 1993, it had ended their relationship.

Sanjay had always denied the reports of his relationship with Madhuri, whereas, the actress has always maintained silence over the same. In an interview with a movie magazine in 1993, Sanjay had denied the reports of his affair with Madhuri and had also recalled apologising to her for the same. He had said, “This story broke out around the time of Saajan. In fact, when the story broke out in the press, she was shooting for Khel in Kenya.”
Going further in the interview, Sanjay recalled that when again they had met on the sets of Saajan, he had apologised to Madhuri for the reports of their alleged affair. He had added, “So, when we had a schedule of Saajan after that, I went up and said sorry to her. Because she was under public scrutiny for no fault of her. She took it well.” Addressing their marriage rumours, he had said, “There has to be something on between us for me to marry her.”
According to an excerpt from Yasser Usman’s book, Sanjay Dutt: The Crazy Untold Story of Bollywood’s Bad Boy, in one of her interviews, Madhuri Dixit had called Sanjay Dutt to be her favourite partner, who makes her laugh all the time. She had shared that Sanjay Dutt is open-minded and does not play games.

Madhuri’s interviews about Sanjay Dutt had added fuel to the reports of their alleged affair. At that time, Sanjay was married to his first wife, Richa Sharma, and the reports about their divorce had started doing the rounds. Richa’s sister, Ena Sharma had called Madhuri inhuman and had accused her of breaking her sister’s marriage with Sanjay.
Lashing out at Madhuri, in an interview with CineBlitz magazine in 1992, Ena had said, “Madhuri is so inhuman… I mean Madhuri can get any man she wants. How can she go for a man who’s behaved in such a way with his wife? I know they are good friends because he’s called her from our house. And he does talk to her brother and her sister here. But we never looked at it as if “okay the guy’s involved with Madhuri”. We’re very open, we’ve always given Sanjay his space.”
Well, it was after almost 25 years that Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit had worked together in the film, Kalank in 2019.
