Legendary actor Sam Neill, well known for his role in the Jurassic Park franchise, breathed his last on July 13, 2026. Sam was 78 at the time of his passing. Recently, Sam announced that he was cancer-free, and now, after his death, his fans have been mourning the loss.

Amid this, a picture of an article in which Sam discussed of murder surfaced online. It is worth mentioning that the interview had a close connection with the 2015 BBC television miniseries adaptation of Agatha Christie's famous mystery novel, And Then There Were None.

Sam Neill planned a murder a year before his death

On August 6, 2025, Sam Neill took to his Instagram handle to re-share a snap showing a part of his interview. The interview was conducted reportedly after the BBC television miniseries adaptation of Agatha Christie's famous mystery novel, And Then There Were None, premiered. In the miniseries, Sam played the role of 'General John MacArthur', who was one of the guests being accused of a dark, hidden crime that the law never punished.

During the interview, Sam was asked if he were to commit a murder, how he would have done it. Sam playfully replied that he would have plotted the crime in a big way in real life. Instead of mixing something into someone’s drink, he would use a steamroller. In his words:

"It's got to be big! No slipping something into someone's drink, that's just pathetic. I'd use a steamroller, just leave a stain on the road. There's probably a couple of people I'd put under a steamroller, but I won't say who they are; otherwise, when they see a steamroller coming their way they'll be on full alert. And steamrollers don't go very fast."

A while back, Sam Neill’s family shared a statement confirming his death. They mentioned that Sam’s death was sudden and unexpected. However, during his final moments, the Jurassic Park star was surrounded by his loved ones. The exact cause of Sam’s death is yet to be revealed. Since 2022, Sam had been battling a rare and aggressive blood cancer called angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. In the statement, the family shared that at the time of his passing, Sam was cancer-free. The statement can be read as:

Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life. The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free. Sam Neill's personal life

Sam Neill had been married twice. Both of his marriages led to divorce. Neil met actress Lisa Harrow in 1980 on the set of Omen III: The Final Conflict. Lisa was Sam’s first wife. The former pair welcomed their son, Tim Neill, in 1983. Later, in 1989, they parted ways. After his divorce from Lisa, Sam went on to date Japanese makeup artist Noriko Watanabe. 

The former couple met while filming  the 1989 thriller, Dead Calm. In September 1989, Sam married Noriko. They completed their family by welcoming their daughter, Elena, in January 1991. Apart from his two marriages, Sam was known for his relationship with journalist Laura Tingle. They made their relationship public in early 2018.
