After his divorce from Noriko Watanabe, Sam Neill began dating ABC presenter, Laura Tingle. She is an Australian journalist and author and has worked with ABC as their global affairs editor. She was formerly the chief political correspondent of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's 7.30 current affairs television program. According to reports, Laura and Neil met through some mutual friends.
However, they decided to keep their relationship private. While Sam Neill's life was an open book, Laura Tingle preferred to keep her personal life private, so little is known about their love life. Nonetheless, it was reported that the couple was together for three years before calling it quits.
Neither Laura Tingle nor Sam Neill commented on what led to the end of their relationship. However, in his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This? The actor reflected on his relationships and called himself a "solitary single man". A part of his memoir read:
"I am a solitary single man now, and I wonder if that’s a personal failing or just bad luck. I am past my use-by date and would not marry again. These days I’m lucky if I go on the odd date. That suits me well, but it’s also a bit lonely. There were times last year that I could have done with a bit of companionship to see me through my blood-cancer treatment [he is now in remission]."
In the same memoir, he also mentioned his ex-girlfriend, Laura Tingle and shared that he was grateful for the three years they had together. He also expressed his gratitude to his mother and other women he had crossed paths with. He stated:
Writing [my memoir] Did I Ever Tell You This? made me reflect on how much gratitude I have for people like my mother, and the women who’ve been good to me. And some of that is not without regrets. I had three wonderful years with [ABC journalist] Laura Tingle, and I am so grateful for that."
Sam Neill, best known for playing 'Dr Alan Grant' in the Jurassic Park franchise, has passed away. According to reports, the New Zealand-based actor died on July 13, 2026, at the age of 78 after a long battle with stage three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. The news of his passing was confirmed by his family in a statement shared on his official Instagram account, saying he died peacefully in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by loved ones.
While no official cause of death was shared by the actor's family, fans initially believed that it had something to do with his long battle with lymphoma. For the unversed, in 2023, Sam had revealed that he was undergoing treatment for stage three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer diagnosed in 2022. However, his family said he remained cancer-free at the time of his death.
The family thanked the medical staff at St Vincent's Private Hospital for their care. They requested privacy as they mourned his loss. The statement from the family could be read as:
"It is with immense sadness that the whnau (extended family) of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday, July 13, in Sydney, Australia. Sam was surrounded by family and died with the dignity that has characterised his whole life. His death was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free."
