The 90-year-old famous screenwriter, Salim Khan, has been hospitalised in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital. His son, Salman Khan, rushed to the hospital, and the family is also with him in these tough times. However, further details about Salim Khan's health is not yet known. Talking about Salim Khan's personal life, he has been married twice and lives a beautiful life with both his wives. Once, his second wife, Helen, who was hailed as the '80s most gorgeous actress, revealed the reason for marrying him.
Salim Khan was the most successful screenwriter of his time and the most handsome man. Before entering the film industry, Salim chose to get married to his love, Sushila Charak, who converted to Salma Khan after nikah. The couple welcomed four children. So Salma's hands were full in raising the kids, while Salim was busy earning money, name and fame for the family. That's when distance crept into their marital life.
It was the same time, Helen was the heroine of every film and made a name for herself with her dance. Salim also couldn't resist Helen's charm, and they grew closer as they started collaborating on many projects. In a throwback interview with Pinkvilla, Salim Khan opened up about his relationship with Helen and stated that he cannot tell when he exactly fell in love with her or decided to marry her. He added that after quite a long time together, he decided to honour their relationship, as many were calling it a fleeting affair. The two got married in 1980. He said:
"I won't be able to say when exactly I fell in love with her or decided to marry her. After seeing her for quite a long time we decided to honour our relationship. We got married in 1980."
However, for Helen, the situation was extremely different. She married an already-married man with four children. She felt guilty, and it disturbed her, but she wasn't able to keep herself away from Salim as he was different from other men. He helped her without trying to exploit her. She shared:
"The fact that Salim was a married man did disturb me and I did felt guilty in the beginning. Something about Salim set him apart from rest of the industry men. I respected him tremendously as he tried to help me out without trying to exploit me."
In the docu-series, Angry Young Man, Salim Khan revealed that he told the truth to Salma with full honesty. He revealed that they had their own issues and problems. She didn't accept his decision with open hands, and they had faced a tough time, but it was for a short while. He was quoted as saying:
"When I told her, she didn’t shake hands with me and told me what a wonderful thing I was doing. Of course, we had problems, but for a very short time. After that, everything was accepted."
Talking about how he revealed the situation to his children, Salim shared that he simply told them that he has another person in his life, whom he is married to. He asked them to give her the same respect as they give their mother, while he wasn't expecting them to love her.
