Ryan Lochte's ex-wife, Kayla Rae Reid, revealed what made her part ways with the Olympian. She talked about finding out about his infidelity while she was pregnant.

In her journal, Kayla called their marriage a ticking time bomb. In a recent interaction, Kayla talked about her divorce with Ryan with whom she shares three children.
Kayla Rae Reid revealed that her husband, Ryan Lochte's, cheated on her repeatedly, even when she was pregnant with his child. He kept covering it up with his lies, which left her confused. She said their marriage fell apart after the birth of their third child, their daughter, Georgia, in 2023.
Before this, Kayla got hold of photos of her husband snuggling with another woman when she confronted him, he denied. However, the same thing happened again in 2023 when Kayla was pregnant and she got hold of a selfie on his phone with a woman at his gym.
Kayla couldn't believe it, she felt like she wasn't a good wife so she sat there and sobbed and apologized for feeling immense guilt and shame. It is worth mentioning that Lochte had an accident the same year while he was driving to pick up their kids from school. He was bed-bound after the accident which further strained their marriage. Meanwhile, Kayla served as the family's caregiver and provider.
However, in 2024, Kayla found out the extent of his substance use. She had evidence of him doing cocaine in daughter Liv's bedroom and saw him using nitrous oxide in front of one of their daughters.
After which, in January 2025, Kayla gave an ultimatum for 30 days, which was followed by a marriage boot camp, but he screamed and said he wasn't going to rehab. It took 19 months of a divorce fight. Kayla retained primary custody for their three children.
However, Ryan also shared his point of view in his statement. He took responsibility of the mistakes they have made and have spoken openly about some of the lowest moments of his life. He accepted that he wasn't ready to be a husband or man in the family. The statement can be read as:
"Over the past several years, I’ve taken responsibility for the mistakes I’ve made and have spoken openly about some of the lowest moments in my life. Looking back, I wasn’t ready to be a husband or the man my family deserved at that point in my life. That’s on me. I’m incredibly grateful for my children, and they are the greatest gift to come from that chapter of my life."
Ryan claimed that he was not going to engage in a back and forth about his divorce and respond to each allegation or characterization. He claimed that any discussion around any confidentiality agreement was never about hiding the truth, but to protect his children from the same situation. He said:
"Any discussion about a confidentiality agreement was never about hiding the truth or protecting my reputation. ... It was about protecting my children from exactly this kind of situation. I’ve always believed that my children’s privacy should come before headlines.”
