Randy Travis, who is 67 years old, has never had any children in his life. The singer's wife, Mary, revealed how his ex played a role in the same.

Recently, the Grammy winner made headlines after surprising a longtime fan who is currently undergoing treatment after battling cancer for years. For those unaware, Randy himself had his own share of health issues since he suffered a stroke in 2013.
There came a time when doctors even advised Randy’s wife, Mary, to “pull the plug,” but she refused, and the country singer survived just like she expected. Now, with Randy in the spotlight, the focus has also shifted towards the country singer’s personal life, especially why he never had any kids.
Randy Travis grew up in a big family. He was one of six children but never had any kids of his own. Well, it was his wife, Mary, who revealed the reason behind the same. According to her, “children are very special to Randy.” She shared that whenever Randy sees a fan with a crying baby, he would quickly take the baby on his lap. Soon, the baby would fall in love with his “honey voice” and quickly become quiet, something that left every mother amazed.
Mary explained that it was Randy’s huge age difference with his then-wife, Elizabeth Hatcher-Travis, best known as Lib, that played a huge part in the country singer never having any children. She said:
"He wanted children, and I think his relationship with Lib, who was so much older than him and they were not able to, is what he explained to me. Children are very special to Randy, and he's always had a very - you know, some people are magnetic toward children and animals."
For those unaware, Randy met his ex-wife, Lib, in North Carolina when he was just a teen. Meanwhile, Lib was managing a country club. The duo, who had an age gap of 16 years, tied the knot in 1991. Lib was almost 40 years old when they both moved out to North Carolina together. They remained married for two decades before deciding to go their separate ways in 2010.
Another factor that contributed to Randy never having any children of his own was the singer's upbringing. Mary pointed out that Randy's parents had very different personalities, and throughout his life, it has always affected him. She recalled that her husband once told her how tough his father was and how he “was not real kind on a bad day.” In her words:
"His daddy was pretty tough. A carousing sort of a guy, drank a lot, had a temper that couldn't be tempered...was not real kind on a bad day, Randy said, but then there were these other days that were pure magic around the house, and Daddy was the kindest, gentlest, sweetest man in the world."
On the other hand, Randy Travis' mother had a really gentle heart, a quality that she shares with her son. She would also be the one who would have to bear the brunt of her husband’s darker impulses. One time, when Randy was just 10 years old, his father got drunk and began beating his mother. When the singer could no longer take it, he came to his mother's rescue and pulled his father off her. This led Randy's father to chase him with a raised gun.
Randy claimed that he had hidden in a nearby cornfield for two days after he ran away from home. He was trembling from anxiety and stayed there without any food or water until he could finally be sure that his father was sober again.
