Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, the popular Bengali actor, tragically passed away on March 29, 2026. He died due to drowning. According to multiple reports, the tragic incident occurred while Rahul was shooting for the serial, Bhole Baba Par Karega, in Talsari, Digha. Technicians rescued the Bengali actor after he drowned and rushed him to Digha hospital, where he was declared dead.
The sudden death of Rahul has left his family and the entire Bengali entertainment industry heartbroken. Rahul’s co-star, Bhaskar Banerjee, confirmed his untimely demise. Bhaskar revealed that the tragic incident took place after packing up. A while ago, Rahul’s estranged wife, Priyanka Sarkar, with whom he shared a son named Sohoj, expressed her grief over his sudden death. She requested privacy at the moment as they navigate through the loss. But do you know, Bengali actor, Rahul was reportedly not allowed to meet his son, Sohoj, during his messy divorce from Priyanka Sarkar? Yes, you read it right. The couple filed for a divorce after nearly 7 years of marriage.
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee and Priyanka Sarkar rose to fame with their blockbuster Bengali film, Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. Soon their on-screen chemistry blossomed into a real-life love story. In 2010, Rahul tied the knot with Priyanka. It was Rahul who proposed to Priyanka. However, according to Priyanka, it was not a happy marriage. For the unversed, Priyanka and Rahul got married when the former was very young. In fact, their marriage also strained her relationship with her parents. Speaking of the same, in a 2018 interview with TOI, Priyanka called her decision to marry 'hasty' and 'immature'. She was quoted as saying:
"It was not a peaceful marriage with Rahul. We started living in very young and got married quite young too. It was a hasty and an immature decision. And for this, my relationship with my parents got strained and it took me years and a lot of effort to fix it. Now, my parents are fine with me and I feel sorry that I had hurt them so much. I was depressed and went through an extremely tough time. When I was in a relationship with Rahul, be it before marriage or after that, I gave my 100% and expected the same in return."
After three years of marriage, Rahul and Priyanka welcomed their first child, a son named Sohoj, on December 9, 2013. However, their seemingly happy marriage hit a rough patch, and they filed for divorce in 2017. According to a 2018 report by Radio Bangla Net, Rahul claimed that Priyanka prevented him from meeting Sohoj. As per the mutual divorce petition, both of them were allowed to meet their son, Sohoj. In the 2018 interview with TOI, Priyanka revealed that Rahul didn’t take any responsibility as a father. Priyanka added that she was the one who took all of Sohoj’s responsibilities, including financial and others. She stated that Rahul only came to her house and played with their son. She was quoted as saying:
"Till date, I have taken all of Sohoj's responsibilities - financial and others. Other than coming to my house and playing with him, Rahul has not taken any responsibility of a father until now."
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee was a phenomenal actor of the Bengali entertainment industry. Reportedly, at the age of 3, Rahul made his first stage appearance. He rose to prominence with the film, Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. He won hearts with his stellar performances in the Bengali TV soap operas, including Desher Maati, Tumi Ashbe Bole, Laalkuthi, and more. He also featured in Bengali web series, Paap, Thakumar Jhuli, Indubala Bhater Hotel and more. Besides acting, Rahul was widely known for his successful podcast show, Sohoj Kotha.
