In a recent interview, Arya Babbar accused his half-brother, Prateik Smita Patil, of using his dad, Raj Babbar, for financial benefits.
Bollywood actor, Prateik Smita Patil, who was earlier known as Prateik Babbar, is the son of late legendary actress, Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. The Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na actor officially dropped his father’s surname and changed his name to Prateik Smita Patil in March 2025. In fact, when Prateik didn’t invite his father, Raj Babbar, to his wedding to Priya Banerjee, it raised many eyebrows. In a recent interview, Prateik’s half-brother, Arya Babbar, accused him of using Raj for financial benefits.
In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, Prateik Smita Patil’s half-brother, Arya Babbar, slammed him for using his dad, Raj Babbar, for financial benefits. Arya claimed that Prateik considers Raj as his father when he needs something from him. However, when it’s time to respect and acknowledge Raj for his contributions in front of society, Prateik ignores him. Arya was quoted as saying:
"It’s like when your career is not doing well, and you need pocket money from dad to survive, then he is your father. When you want to live in the house that your father bought for Smita maa, then he is your father. When you want all the benefits, then he is your father. But when you have to acknowledge him and give him respect in front of society, then he is not your father. What is that?"
In the same interview, Arya Babbar opened up about his bond with his half-brother, Prateik Smita Patil. Arya shared that as an elder brother, he loves Prateik, but when he is wrong, he is wrong. Arya mentioned that it’s sad that Raj Babbar, who left his family for Smita Patil, is being ignored by his own son. Arya added that as an elder brother, he would be there for his half-brother, Prateik, but he would be unable to embrace and love him the same way. Arya was quoted as saying:
"As an elder brother, I love him, but when he is wrong, he is wrong, and this is where he is wrong. It is so tragic that the Smita maa, for whom my father left his family, today, Smita maa’s son is not ready to acknowledge him as his father. What could be a bigger tragedy than that? As an elder brother, I will be here for him, but if I am asked if I can embrace and love him the same way, then maybe not."
Raj and Smita first met on the sets of Bheegi Palkein. At the time, Raj was married to Nadira Babbar. However, as love blossomed between Raj and Smita, the former left his first wife, Nadira. The couple welcomed son, Prateik, on November 28, 1986. But in a tragic turn of events, Smita left for the heavenly abode on December 13, 1986, due to childbirth complications.
A few days back, Smita’s close friend, Aruna Raje, shared how much the legendary actress loved Raj. Aruna revealed that when Smita was seven months pregnant with Prateik, she observed a Karwa Chauth fast for Raj. Smita was so madly in love with Raj that even though she was advised not to observe the fast at the time, she went against all and did it. In an interview with ETimes, Aruna said:
"She was madly in love with Raj, almost to the point of obsession. She had even observed the Karwa Chauth vrat for Raj, even though she was seven months pregnant and had been advised against it."
